Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
The pole vault since Bubka and Tarasov retired has brought too many random results and weak heights.

incredibly sour bunch
Ramón Alegre, the captain, was initially too upset to attend the press conference but Spain's coach, Dani Martín, demanded the International Hockey Federation (FIH) speak publicly about the episode. "The FIH needs to take this serious as it's a very serious situation," he said. "It cannot happen that an international official changes his decision twice just because he is surrounded by the opposition players.
"If the president of the FIH does not give a public explanation of what has happened there will be very serious consequences: so we are in a tournament where there are clear favourites and these countries are being favoured at the tournament. It could have been the right decision [each time] but the umpire has stopped Great Britain qualifying with all the correct honour."

When Alegre eventually turned up he was asked if he agreed with his coach's claim that there had been favouritism. He said: "So everyone can see what happened – Spain went into this match with a dream and they have not allowed us to achieve this dream and we're all very disappointed."

Great entertainment this Iceland-Hungary game.
30-30 after 10 minutes of extra time.

another extra time between Iceland - Hungary . It just shows how one group was much more stronger than another. Denmark should make the finals from this half

Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
Iceland had it all in regular time but at the end Hungary prevailed. A bit of surprise but can't say really a big one, Iceland can beat anybody in one game but they often lacking of consistency. Hungary with 3 defeats from which 2 were crushing in medals zone . At least even if Croatia lose the semis we should have a medal secured. Haven't watched 2 extra times handball game since Croatia - Spain back in '03. So great watch drama like this when your team isn't in it

Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
Gudjonsson missing the penalty to send Iceland through to the semis. What a dramatic match double extra time in the handball. Fazekas the man was on fire and couldn't stop Nagy.
The end of this excellent generation for Iceland, lack of overall depth, not taking their chances combined with a keeper on fire and brave stuff from Hungary.

Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
For me, the biggest Iceland's problem all these years were shitty goalkeepers . Never had a guy neither capable to be on the same level of his opponents.

Re: Olympic Games 2012 London Thread (All other sports besides tennis)
Gudmundsson the goalie had a good game unlike Gustavsson. Watching the pictures at the end the Icelandic coach Gudmundsson was so shattered, he is still thinking how the fuck did we lose. Would have been good if they could get a medal, but got to take your chances in this sport especially.

Going to be next to impossible to replace Olafur Stefansson but Iceland going to have to rebuild. Just wish Norway could actually be decent in the men's handball but at least they got a gold medal today.

The (Australian) ref gave Spain THREE penalty corners in the last 3 minutes that clearly weren't. It had bent written all over it. But the upstairs official overruled all three of them and rightly so.
