That only one person jumped over 8.2m is terrible for the sport, to say the least.

They need to make rule changes to give athletes more chances, imho. Maybe carry over qualifying distances to the final.

It's just a relatively bad crop of jumpers. No rules change needed.

It's still an exciting competion with position 2-5 separated by a few centimeters.

Happened last Olympics too. It's just one of those events where the best athletes miss their chances the most. Nothing is quite like it and triple jump and people falling out. Which is why I wouldn't be against them being a bit more lenient.

I am sorry you got to do it in the finals, the qualifying only counts .

Lets see Carl Lewis, Phillips, Pedroso, Beamon, Saladino. Sure Rutherford isn't as good as those guys but he handled the pressure and home crowd helped him.
