As with anything and everything regarding him... They obviously weren't going to turn down Drouet's releasing of these stories.

I think what upsets me the most with the whole situation is that I feel more could have been done to prevent it from reaching this point. There have been signs early on of such behavior, but it just feels that no one stepped in when they should have. Tennis Australia? IMG? These people are involved or have interest in his career but let things slide (from what I've read anyway), and now this happened.

Doubt it, Bernie has been through this his whole life and he doesn't pay attention to the media anyway.

He won't be put off by these articles. I mean he gave zero fucks to the cops, so why would he care about this.

Tomic set to announce new coach soon

Quote:
Bernard Tomic is set to name his new coach within the next fortnight.

Australia's top-ranked male tennis player has been on the lookout for a mentor to replace his father John, suspended from the ATP Tour indefinitely following his assault on Tomic's former training partner Thomas Drouet in May.

But the 21-year-old world No.51 said his father would still play a part in his tournament preparations.

"I've been discussing that (a new coach) with my father and that should be all sort of solved in the next 10 days to two weeks," Tomic said in an interview with Tennis Australia.

"You've got to be fitted with the right people around you in anything you do. It just gives you very, very good motivation.

"Obviously my dad has been there all my life and I need him always there.

"For sure, the guy that's going to start working with me and helping out is going to be very important for me.

"But my team, regardless of what that is, needs to be 100 per cent there for me and I need to put in 100 per cent too if I want to get results."

Tomic, who moved to Melbourne with his family mid-year, admitted he was a bit ambitious to target a top-10 ranking on the back of his maiden ATP Tour title at the Sydney International in January.

"After that, I think I set my goals pretty high and it was difficult to achieve that," he said.

"Top 10 was a tough ask. I managed to get closer to the top 35 but that wasn't enough.

"Obviously you've got to set goals one step at a time. And that's what I've certainly learnt this year - to set smaller goals and give yourself a better chance of getting up there."

Tomic suffered 11 first-round exits from 23 tournaments in 2013 as his early-season fitness began to dwindle.

But he did manage to help earn Australia a spot back in the Davis Cup World Group.

"There were a lot of ups and downs. I could've asked for a lot of things to be better, but I'm happy with the end result," he said.

Tomic will be out to defend his Sydney International title in January after being handed a wildcard entry for the tournament on Thursday.

Tomic’s new coach is ‘extended arm’ of banned dad
1 Dec 2013 The Sunday Mail (Queensland)
DAVID DAVUTOVIC

Quote:
CROATIAN Velimir Zovko is Bernard Tomic’s new “coach”.

Zovko will replace Tomic’s father, John, in the coach’s box at January’s Australian Open after he was hired to help guide the youngster for the next six months while Tomic’s father serves an ATP Tour ban.

The 46-year-old joins the Tomic camp to work alongside Tomic Sr, who remains firmly in charge despite being banned from attending the January tournament after assaulting his son’s former hitting partner Thomas Drouet in May.

Zovko will arrive in Melbourne in a fortnight ahead of Tomic’s preparations for the Hopman Cup in Perth which starts on December 28.

With the ATP not reviewing Tomic’s ban until May, Tomic Sr was confident Zovko’s arrival would help reinvigorate the 21-year-old.

“Yes, Velimir Zovko is joining the Tomic camp. He will be an integral part of Bernard’s team and preparation while I serve out my ATP ban,’’ Tomic Sr said.

“He was a selector and a senior team member of the Croatian tennis team which competed in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. We look forward to a positive year where we can make Australia proud and once again thank all tennis fans for their continual support. Velimir will be my extended arm.’’

I have been a long time follower of tennis and have been reading this forum for a long time without posting. I just wanted to say that Bernard's choice of coach is interesting to say the least. I really thought he might have picked an Australian Coach. I really wish he would remove his dad all together from any sort of coaching capacity and separate family and tennis. I think having his dad with so much control is not necessarily a good thing.

Party boy Bernard Tomic ready to knuckle down for Australian Open
Linda Pearce
Published: December 4, 2013 - 3:00AM

Quote:
His extended 21st birthday celebrations finally over, night owl Bernard Tomic has declared himself ready to submit to the daily discipline of a pre-season under new co-coach Velimir Zovko, who has arrived in Melbourne to help prepare the world No.51 for a new year that will start with a recycled goal: a place among the top 20.

Zovko, 46, was hired by Tomic's father, John, for the duration of Tomic senior's tournament suspension, which expires in May. Bernard said Zovko's Croatian background had been an attraction, and the dual-coach arrangement an experiment he was happy to try over the next six months.

''Obviously he's from Croatia, he speaks my language, and it's very important for me to have a good communication, someone that understands me, my background, because it's not easy - I'm a difficult sort of guy,'' Tomic said.

''Obviously my dad's gonna be still involved; I'll sort of have two coaches and they're gonna work through it with me until my dad's ban [ends] in May. Until then, I'm going to try with this new coach, with my dad on his side, both of them helping. I know not many players have two coaches, it's something new for me, but I'm gonna try and see how that goes, and then we'll see how it unfolds after May. If not, [I can] go back to my own formula.''

Given that John Tomic, who has driven his son's career for its colourful duration, recently described Zovko's role as being to act as his ''extended arm'', the news of the appointment was greeted with some resignation - although not great surprise - by those in Australian tennis who had hoped for a more independent voice.

Bernard Tomic said he did not expect to receive conflicting messages. ''This guy [Zelko] will be more there on court, spending more hours with me, my dad will sort of be less, but obviously my dad knows me best, and if he sees something that's obviously wrong or mistaken then they'll have a talk about it outside of tennis … so that's understood between them, and they are ready to take on the role.''

And the appeal of Zelko, in particular? ''From what I've heard, he's disciplined, it's something what I need, and it's obviously something new. I'm looking forward. I can't say what he can bring, but obviously I'm going to pick it up throughout the weeks as they go by and hopefully it can work out. I think it's important for me to [knuckle] down and work hard this time now, and get myself playing well in January, like I always do,'' Tomic said.

Tomic said he had considered the open invitation from Davis Cup coach Tony Roche to join the demanding off-season program on Lleyton Hewitt's home court in Sydney, but the need had been obviated by his family's recent move to Melbourne and access to the impressive National Tennis Centre facility, where he will prepare for the Hopman Cup and defence of his Sydney International title before the Australian Open.

After that, the challenge will continue to replicate his regular domestic form overseas, and the ''reasonable'' aim of a slot in the top 20 remains his 2014 focus. ''It's tough, but I've gotta put my head down,'' said the former No.27, whose stretch on the party circuit was revealingly captured on social media.

''I had fun. Obviously I celebrated my 21st … I'm gonna train now and see how I go. I'm ready to go. I always train well before Aussie, everyone knows that, so it's the important thing to play well after, which I'll be ready this year. I'm young, so I'm learning. Ups and downs.''

Just what the doctor ordered, have some serious rest time, chill out time, some fun time and now, with a month to go get training - plenty of time in which to do that. Bernie's fresh now, ready to roll...

So according to Rasheed his injury, surgery, and being out for 3+ months is a cover up because John told Bernard to withdraw pre-match?

A Channel 7 reporter tweeted last weekend that Bernard had 2 surgeries:

Something dodgy going on from one of the parties here. When does John's ban lift again? Not sure who to believe tbh...
