A great month of football awaits.

Germany my tip to win it and can't see past Spain and the Dutch as legit title threats.

The rest are making up the numbers IMO. Hopefully it'll be as entertaining as 08, and not the negative tactics that were prevalent in South Africa two years ago.

I'm glad we have this thread, thought it's gonna be discussed in the Football zone one.

I'm drooling over every game in the group B, that's gonna be some football
Our group and schedule reminds me of 2004 when we first played Switzerland which was a must win game and it finished 0-0. Hopefully this time we manage to get a win from our first game against the Republic of Ireland, although we also played a goalless draw against them last summer.

France have a great team and a good coach
I think they're solid in all departments more than Spain. Probably only Germany has a better all around team

Default Re: European Football Championship 2012 Thread

European Championships are usually more exciting and have a better standard of football than World Cups. Euro 2000 was the best tournament of recent times in my opinion, and Euro 2008 was the second best. The groups at the Euros are much tighter and more unpredictable. Of course it's a shame that UEFA have decided to tinker with this perfect format that we have now and make it a 24 team tournament from 2016 onwards.

I agree that Germany should get the job done this after all their near misses at the last 3 major tournaments. They have a young, hungry, exciting team but their players are more experienced and battle hardened now. It's time for them to end their 16 year title drought.

Holland are the 3rd best team in the world and also genuine title contenders but it will be interesting to see how they do against their bête noire Portugal. They haven't beaten Portugal since 1991, losing 2-0 at home to them in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers and being eliminated by them in 2004 and 2006. I believe that traditionally Portuguese clubs have a very good overall record against Dutch clubs as well. Holland are much stronger this time though and have a wealth of attacking options. I wonder how they accommodate both RVP and Huntelaar in their team.

As I said in the Football Zone thread Spain will go close but I don't think they'll go all the way this time. Their preparations have not been ideal, their defence will not be as formidable as it was 2 years ago in South Africa, and many of their players are mentally and physically exhausted after playing so much football for club and country over the last few years with very few breaks.

Agreed about germany being the favourites. Spain not looking good, worse than WC and waaay worse than euro 2008.

Spain, Germany and Netherlands are well ahead and yes Italy are in front of France.

Spain are very tired especially the Barca section, will be interesting to see how Sergio Ramos plays as centre back with Puyol injured.

Del Bosque must be delighted that there will be no Barcelona-Real Madrid champions league final next week. It would be the biggest Clásico match of all time and with such stakes there would be guaranteed to be some tension and a brawl at some stage, potentially jeopardising team spirit in the Spain camp.

Then again the Spanish Barça and RM players were involved in a major brawl against each other during the Supercopa de España last August, but were united when they brawled together against Chile in Spain's friendly a few weeks later .

Piqué has had a difficult time on and off the pitch at Barça with a huge loss of form and a fall out with Guardiola over his celebrity lifestyle. This summer could be difficult for him.

Left back has maybe been Spain's main problem position over the last few years but hopefully Alba takes his opportunity and shines.

Yes, we are deal with it.

I hope HBA will be on starting team. He is a wonderful asset. I can't understand how people compare him with Menez, HBA is twice the player Menez is.

There's some great talents like M'Vila but I wouldn't put you anywhere near the main three. 2nd group of teams maybe but the big 3 are easily the best sides.

Dreams are free, then again you thought Lemaitre is better than Yohan Blake

We are in the top 4 favourite in that order:

Spain - Netherlands- France/Germany

They are in the same league. Lemaitre is younger though. Future will tell.

As for HBA, no sane person can declare that Menez is a better player. I hope you are not.
