Default Amer Delic : ATP meetings: forum 4 uneducated, short-sighted, self-serving players

Quote:
Over the years I have been to numerous ATP [Association of Tennis Professionals] meetings and I can’t think of anything good that comes out of any of them. It’s so topical and minimal, it’s almost laughable.

Top guys have their own issues, rest of us have our own (and way more of them).

There are 150 guys in a room speaking 7-8 different languages and truthfully not much education among all. Most of the people are looking for instant results and no one is looking at the big picture. It’s impossible to come to any compromise.

it had to be said, I think, and that's precisely what Stakhovsky's words expressed : pure, short-sighted opportunism, but it was not "politically correct" to say it.

Demagogy imposed to say otherwise.

Happy that Delic said it.

PS : maybe you should change the thread title to show Delic's full name (take out the commas ?)

To be honest, I can kind of understand why there's short-sightedness on the part of the players. You need a Ghandi of tennis for the players to unite for a cause. Most players' peak is not more than 3-4 years so they'd be looking to cash in as much money as possible as they won't really care what happens to the tour once they retire.

Sure, some of the old stars benefit from the popularity of tennis now but that's only the stars again. I know it sounds like a cynical view but that's how things work. Tennis is, after all, an individual sport and the most popular one in the world with that, so it is not surprising to see players seeking just rewards. On the other hand, Stakhovsky is a dumb piece of work so I can see the other side as well.

The fact is, success in DC is largely determined by what country you come from or play for in the first place, which most players haven't had any control over.

Rain is wet, considering the ATP only care about the top few it's not a surprise.
