This dude just took a wildcard into an event he had no business playing, he couldn't gain any spots on his ranking, and he was already injured. What is his problem?

With this horrible decision along with numerous other questionable career decisions, the question has to be asked-----is Gael Monfils the most stupid, more foolish player in tennis history?

And before people say "this thread is insulting", fuck that. I support and will continue to support Monfils, but this dude keeps fucking everything up.

No, he's just not as obsessed/driven to winning titles as many other players and is more about having fun out there and entertain the fans as well with his tennis and superb shows of athleticism.

More power to him (and his fans). It is a pity that he's missing the French Open though, it's awesome to watch him play while feeding off the energy of the French crowd.

Bizarre post even by your standards. I'm sure he played Nice because he thought he needed match practice before RG. Points weren't important to him and he may not have known the extent of his injury until he played.

He is not professional and serious enough which costs him a Top5 spot... His potential would obviously allow him to be in this ranking area...

Example: He withdraws from Indian Wells but plays football on the grass area with other French Players... I was there and thought: If you can play football, why not tennis?

He's a professional tennis player, not a WWF wrestler. Such a waste of an amazing amount of talent. Yeah, he's pretty dumb.

As a person he could be a smart guy but as a tennis player he is really dumb.It seems his goal is to get the play of the day rather then a title.Less spectacular would be better.When u look he has won 4 titles in his career and Ferrer got 14;that pretty much tells the story.

It is likely that he felt he didn't get the proper clay court preparation and wanted to get extra matches in. It could also have been an injury where the doctors told him it couldn't get worse from playing so he entered Nice to see what level he could perform at but decided after Nice that he wouldn't be able to put in a professional effort over five sets.

There are a lot of reasons other than being the dumbest player in the history of tennis.

caught many interviews with Monf when he played (and won) Stockholm Open last year and I can say for sure he's not the dumbest player but no rocket scientist either.

His problem is more his competitive/seriousness for the sport. When other players were warming up/stretching sometimes he sat with huge headphones digging music. Even pulled some dance moves during practice. He was showing of for the crowd and threw himself around despite the court being like rough sandpaper.

He's more about having fun than "win no matter the cost". His career would go a lot better if he skipped the part about having fun and did proper practice, warm-up, stretching, tactical analysis and such things.

I suspect if you compared say Roger Federers methodological and serious preparations with Monfils it would be a huge difference. Like day and night
