Re: Hockey thread
I hoped for dramatic matches like the quarters but Finland is getting destroyed atm. Russia has taken the home-crowd out of it too. I don't see Finland coming back
Malkin's injury was just a heavy blow to that nerve-center on the elbow according to swedish commentators. When they could take the pain down there was no problem

Re: Hockey thread
Congratulations to Slovakia. Satan with 2 goals. Sometimes it's good to have the on your side. And Chara is a monster as always. If one guy is supposed to stop Malkin & co it should be Chara. Still think Russia wins the gold

Re: Hockey thread
What a beating from Russia but let's face it, Russia's player material is just awesome. Malkin was on fire. This time Sisu couldn't win over material .
Slovakia . Was sitting right behind a large group of Slovak supporters, they had a very nice atmosphere there! Hope they'll do well today in the final but Russia will be tough to stop.

Re: Hockey thread
Good fight-back from the fins. Might be too late...
The czechs are very stupid atm taking penalties and are only defending. The finish pressure is immense

Re: Hockey thread
Wasn't enough, sadly.
The refereeing has been bad overall this year. In this match the Czechs got away with a lot of dirty play.
Still, have to make most of your chances. We had plenty of powerplay in the end, didn't use them.

I have to agree. Czechs got away with a lot of questionable interference/hooking/holdings vs Sweden too, even worse than against Finland. Imagine not a single PP in 60min despite more puck possession.
Also the refs setting a high level from the start just green-lights all kinds of dirty plays. To me it's very strange because international hockey usually sets a lower bar than in the league hockey. Time just runs away from you if there never is any interuptions and chance for powerplays. There were even many situations were the Czechs just blatantly took a guy down and got a breakaway/2-1 opportunity as a result. Feels horrible but maybe the fact that the crowd wanted penalties worked against both Sweden and Finland at times because the refs don't want to seem like they are favoring the home-teams
Still doesn't take anything away from the Czechs. They were smart all through the tournament. Avoided the always-called type of penalties and played solid defense.
The curse of never getting a medal as host continues for Finland...
