Default So I just randomly bought a ticket to Singapore in June ...

Does anyone live there, or know of any good stuff to do. My 'plan' is to back pack through Asia, but I didn't know Singapore was an island state until I just looked it up. Can I walk across the bridge?

I'm scared

Look man, there is nothing to be scared about, Singapore is a great country, well for people who are tourists because if you live there permanently, its hard. I been living in Singapore for the past 4 years.

The bad thing that the things here in Singapore are quite expensive and the weather is not pleasant, its very hot. 30-35 degrees Celsius and its very humid which makes it even worse. The temperature is like that basically every single day, there is no winter. Only summer because it lies closely to the equator. But other that, its good, its a great place for tourists, its a very safe country, transport system is great, its perfectly safe to take buses(I take bus to school everyday). The good things is that Singapore is a very advanced country, so there is basically AC every place including the buses, you will see buildings everywhere, and its also very clean, it has a pleasant environment.

There a lot of malls there, most common are the Parkway Parade, Suntec City, Tampines Mall, etc... There a lot of places to shop, buy high quality clothes, any other stuff. The people there are Indians, Chinese and Malays, majority are Chinese. just in case you haven't found a hotel, you can go Marina Bay Sands hotel,(its very expensive though) or the Orchard Hotel.

The best place to visit would Resort World Sentosa, there is a Casino there if you are interested and also a big place called Universal studios where there are so many things to do, there are many trilling, exhilarating rollecoaster rides, I went there 4 times and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. You can also get to see some Music/dance performances there, there is the 4D short Shrek Movie, and many other things. If you like to see animals, you can go to the Singapore Zoo. There are many enjoyable things to do Singapore. I hope you have fun there.

One more thing, it may be a little bit hard to understand how Singaporeans speak because their accent is weird and they speak "Singlish"(english combined with little malay and chinese words). Words like lah, walao, sia, lepak, lor, bodoh etc.. are very commonly used there, I always try not to use those words but most of the time, I just can't help it. An example of a sentence that Singaporeans speak, instead of saying "why are you being like that?" they say "why you so like dat sia?"

Well anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip in Singapore. Wish you good luck

Your Singlish is perfect.

There are backpackers' hotels/hostels in Little India as well. I recently went there for the first time in slightly less than two decades and saw a lot of white backpackers hanging around. My French boyfriend also really likes that area for some unknown reason, so it might be worth checking out if OP is looking for cheaper accommodation.

As a local, I hate the entire Marina Bay area. It represents everything I hate about my country: the lack of authenticity. But I guess it's good for tourism so

Botanic Gardens is one of the few rare places in Singapore where you can enter for free and it is quite beautiful, even for someone who hates being outside. I'd definitely recommend it to tourists.

Also definitely pig out on local food. The food is one of the three things I miss about my country and I genuinely believe that we have the best food in the world.

Is Singaporean food a thing? Never heard of, but would love to read further.

Would you care posting a couple links for me to explore, thanks in advance.

Singaporean food is a thing for sure. You'd hardly find a country with people more obsessed with food than Singaporeans. Singaporean food is mainly food from the different ethnic groups, so a lot of dishes can be found in other parts of Asia too. But still, we consider the food 'Singaporean' because we are Chinese/Malay/Indians AND Singaporean all at once.

This article gives a pretty good idea of what Singaporean food is: http://travel.cnn.com/singapore/none...without-810208 (Didn't read the descriptions but the items listed are spot-on)

Omg talking about this is making me hungry and homesick.

Oh, and if you're ever in London (perhaps other parts of Europe as well; not sure) and you step into a Chinese restaurant serving "Singapore fried noodles", it's definitely not a thing. This dish barely exists in Singapore.

Any authentic Singaporean dishes I shouldn't leave without trying? I like trying weird exotic food.

Thanks for the info on the hostels, it'll either be that or couch-surfing

Is it easy to leave Singapore through to Malaysia? Is their a bridge or something?

* Slams Do Not Exist!

Lenders: One thing people need to understand about this so-called weak era is that it was 'weak' for Federer on HC and grass and for Nadal on clay (Federer on clay too Nadal apart) because they were so much better than anyone else, for any outsider the era couldn't possibly be any harder, during 5+ years you had to either beat the best grass/HC player ever or the best clay player ever in every single Slam just to get 1 Slam title.
