Re: Amendment One passes in North Carolina by 61-39% vote.
It is a damn shame. At least the youth voted 75+% in favor of gay marriage, so it is only a matter of time before the bigoted fucks die off.
I still don't know why people care about what other people do in their own home, it is none of anyone else's business.

Re: Amendment One passes in North Carolina by 61-39% vote.
I live in Virginia, the state directly north of North Carolina. We already passed legislation like this, tragically, in 2006. Our state is a little bit more progressive than North Carolina.
Jonathan, you're right, the generational gap is HUGE. Especially in states like NC. Young people are between 65-75% for marriage equality overall, that would be teenagers to about 29 years old. But after that, it gets very cloudy and inconsistent. A state like California, people 30-50 years old would support it, but in a state like NC, they wouldn't. And in conservative states, it's more like 55-62% support with young voters. It's not enough to drown out the rural areas and middle-aged and older bigots.
At least, when they do fucking die, I won't spit at their graves like Westboro Baptist Church

Re: Amendment One passes in North Carolina by 61-39% vote.
Unfortunately I feel like the gap would be even wider in my state South Carolina.
Filo you make a good point. The people that are on the fence or just "kinda" for it need to get more passionate about it.

Re: Amendment One passes in North Carolina by 61-39% vote.
Sadly, you're likely right, but NC voted for it at around an equal percentage to the SC amendment.
Obama coming out for marriage equality today I think is the potentially big breakthrough required to galvanize especially younger voters to start really getting passionate about this cause. Because if he can do it, given the political risk, there is no reason any of us can't fight for equality, too.

Logical decision. Stands to reason, actually.

Re: Amendment One passes in North Carolina by 61-39% vote.
Well, since signs indicate it will be repealed in court anyway since it's a blatantly discriminatory law, no, it isn't logical.
