Roddick, Fish pull out of Madrid Masters
Quote:
Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish have pulled out next week’s Masters event in Madrid, the tournament announced. The 28th-ranked Roddick is still suffering from a hamstring injury in his right leg that's been bothering him since December, which also forced him to pull out of his match at the Australian Open against Lleyton Hewitt.
The ninth-ranked Fish simply chose not to sign into the mandatory tournament (players who qualified by rankings are automatically entered) and did not state a reason for doing so. He has recently cited overall fatigue as factor in his mediocre results this year.
Lukasz Kubot and Olivier Rochus will replace them in the draw.

So Fish will be sanctioned?

Re: Roddick, Fish pull out of Madrid Masters
What a surprise a couple of clay clowns like Monoduck and Mugdy missing clay event - at least Monoduck made an effort to fake injury, Fish should be fined for disrespecting this sport and his 2 fans.

Re: Roddick, Fish pull out of Madrid Masters
I think Fish have some hidden issue. He's not been good all year and i think he complained about feeling sick too. I fear it could be something up with him.
Guess we get more information eventually but everything can't be 100% with him. Hopefully nothing serious but he's had some problem for quite a while now.

Since the new rules started in 2009, tens of players withdrew from so-calleds "mandatory tournaments" without having any real reason. Not especially American players, for instance Albert Montanes was the specialist to skip the summer hardcourt tournaments.
I don't think Fish is stupid enough to be the first one in that case.
Moreover, from what I heard, he's had real issues, probably more than Roddick actually.
In reality, no tournament is mandatory, the only matter players don't like about so-called mandatory tournaments is that they get zero point in their rankings which they can't replace with a result in another tournament, but there's no real imposition contrary to what some players say to the media.

Fish in a current form would have very few opponents to beat.
