one of the best managers back in business - Billy Davies back at Notts Forest, finally one of these clubs realize its all downhill when you let Billy go (see Derby, Preston and Forest the last time) so Forest the ones smart enough to bring him back

idiot club, turning away a good player in transfer window coz he didnt have 20-20 vision lolz

Great result for Theo Whitmore's Jamaica at the Azteca. A fine point to kick the campaign off. I hope they can at least finish in the playoff spot.

Wise words man

wasn't a good match by any means, domination and control by NED for the most part against a very dull Italy and the equalizer wasn't really 'deserved' to be honest. Our weakest links are still both our right and left backs (facepalm worthy to have Abate as our starter, he makes not even a peak Panucci look like Cafu ) and the work in the midfield from Pirlo and De Rossi was very subpar. Was impressed by Maher btw, i would say he was the most dangerous man yesterday.

Don´t you have anyone coming up for the back positions? Abate is indeed not that good. Meanwhile, in midfield you still have Verratti who can take Pirlo´s place when he retires. Maher is the first Dutch player that can and most probably will reach world class status since Van Persie/Robben/Sneijder. He´s been tearing it up here for the last year, it´s a matter of time before one of the biggest clubs snaps him up. Personally, I´d say Arsenal would be perfect for him.

No doubt about it, he (Maher) does seem to have plenty of potential and even still room for growth and improvement which he could obtain with time at, like you said, one of 'the giants'. It's not just his skills too, he showed great character always going forward and looking very impetuous on the field.

As for us for both RB and LB positions... i haven't lost hope in Santon, he is still very young and can perform at both positions actually but, as for Abate, he really should go asap. I still prefer Maggio and Cassani over him even if they are both far from world class and not too good defensively. De Sciglio from Milan could be a nice option in the near future (he can also play at LB just as Santon and they are both less than 22 y.o.) and possibly Biraghi. time will tell with these last two. I'm hoping for the team to play with 3 at the back looking forward to next year though

I went to the Azteca for the México-Jamaica game. I will try to go to all of their other 4 home games in the hex. The fans were right to boo the team. Great stuff by the Reggae Boyz though.

Chepo made a huge mistake with his starting formation, selecting Chicharito and Peralta to play up front together and abandoning the tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation. Also replacing Gio who was the best player on the pitch (for the all the criticism he receives for his partying lifestyle, he virtually always places well for the México NT) for Aquino was another mistake.

México had won something like 25 consecutive home matches at the Azteca before yesterday's game as well.

Salcido receives too much harsh criticism from many fans here though. He was clearly the best player for México at the 2010 World Cup and hasn't performed that badly for the NT over the past couple of years. He made a good start for Fulham in the EPL but his form suffered after his house was robbed.

Corona proved once again that he is clearly the best goalkeeper in the country. Hopefully the dark days of Conejo Pérez or the overrated Ochoa between the sticks for the NT are long gone.

On the other hand, I'm curious to see if they can police this. Players might be paid moderate salaries officially, but a little extra off-shore.

A sensible decision by the Premier League, now it will be interesting to see just how comitted they are to it.

Jonathan Pitroipa's ban for Nations Cup final has been overturned and he will be able to play in the final for Burkina Faso. Match referee admitted he wrongly sent off Pitroipa and CAF has rescinded the suspension.

Good to see Italy have some options, I have a soft spot for them. BTW, as far as future world class footballers in the Dutch league are concerned: Viktor Fischer, remember that name. 18-year old Dane who plays at Ajax, will be among the best players of the world in 5 years, you can quote me on that.
