Paraguay dead last in South America qualifying at the moment after losing 0-2 at home to Venezuela. Pretty shocking as they have made at least the last 4 World Cups and runners up in Copa America last year (though they didn't actually any of their 6 games). They are already 8 points adrift of the playoff spot. Hope they don't qualify as they have played some terrible football at the major tournaments, though they have had some solid success doing so.

The US got revenge on Jamaica today thanks to a good free kick from Herculez Gomez. The score was only 1-0 but the US totally dominated the first half with close to 80% possession. There were also 3 goals that hit the post for the US and a few brilliant saves by the Jamaican goalkeeper.

Ironically, the one Jamaican goal was one of the easier saves that Miller should have made. The bunker ball after the goal was appalling and pathetic. I have no idea why they stopped playing with any creativity and sense of urgency after the goal. If this was Klinsmann's idea, it's awful strategy. Graham Zusi was a bright spot tonight.

The good news is that the team will only get better once Dempsey gets into form and Donovan and Bradley are back in the lineup. I feel a lot better about our team now than I did a week ago, that's for sure.

I watched the England game as well, Cleverley had 2-3 really good scoring chances in the first half. The team looked much better as soon as the pace of Sturridge and Welbeck was injected into their lineup. They desperately need another Paul Scholes or Beckham.

Remaining fixtures are extremely favorable with the easiest road game of the three and home to Guatemala. Mexico only team to advance to final stage so far.

I think Herculez Gomez is a decent CONCACAF striker and Dempsey is pretty good there but we need a long term solution at this spot. Altidore has been decent with his club but he doesn't fit in with this current group well. I think Terrence Boyd (Dortmund youth product) and currently at Rapid Vienna could be that guy.

We should be able to win out the remaining games but you never know in WCQ. A hopefully healthy Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley along with an in form Dempsey should really improve our squad. Oguchi Onyewu will be playing against top level competition with Malaga and a few more of our guys will have regular PL experience. The best possible scenario would be:

Howard
Cherundolo - Onyewu - Bocanegra - Johnson
Cameron - Jones
Donovan - Bradley - Dempsey
Gomez

Gomez is a decent CONCACAF striker, well that isn't saying much, I'd say his slightly above average for that, plus Dempsey isn't a proper stiker anyhow, he either plays attacking mid or forward.
