Indian Wells R1: Mahut def. [Q] Pospisil 6-3 6-2
Both Mahut and Pospisil had some struggles holding serve at the start of the match. Mahut had to fend off several deuces in his first two service games; Pospisil got taken to 30, saved a break point in his second service game but got broken after saving three break points to go down 2-*4. Nicolas served the first set out comfortably, then broke from 15-*40 in the first game of the second set to take control of the match. Mahut broke again for *4-1 in the second set after a long game with several deuces/break points.
It was a closer match than the scoreline indicates, Marathon Man didn't have to save a break point but got tested in a lot of his service games. However he had at least 30 on return in all but a couple of Pospisil's serve games and did a good job on return for his standards. A good win and Monaco in the next round presents a great opportunity.

Popsicle is melting too fast
"Who ain't a slave? Tell me that. Well, then, however the old sea-captains may order me about—however they may thump and punch me about, I have the satisfaction of knowing that it is all right; that everybody else is one way or other served in much the same way— either in a physical or metaphysical point of view, that is; and so the universal thump is passed round, and all hands should rub each other's shoulder-blades, and be content." - Herman Melville, Moby Dick
