Re: Food thread
I love a lot of the local dishes and recipes here in México, whether it is the quesadilla with Oaxacan cheese, Pozole, Tacos al pastor, Tortas Ahogadas, Chilorio, Campechana Sinaloense etc
I lived in Europe for many years, but I have to say that the food here really does blow even the most popular European cuisines out of the water in my opinion, in terms of variety and flavour.

But yes, it will still probably taste good if you cover a turd with it (not that I am encouraging this).

Some Aussies put tomato sauce on a steak.

Re: Food thread
After living on Mexican food for so long, I find Italian, Spanish cuisines etc to be so bland in comparison, and can only properly enjoy them if I add habañero sauce or something. Maybe that's because I just really love spicy food though. No wonder there are so many fat people here with such good food and generous portions on offer.
As far as steaks go, I wonder if there is a better city in the world than Montevideo for that. Argentina and Uruguay have a pretty well documented rivalry for the 'best beef in the world' title, but having been to both countries I think that Uruguay takes it. If you really love your meat, the country would be heaven for you.
A parilla/barbecue on the streets of Montevideo really is an amazing experience.

Re: Food thread
My top 5:
1. Chinese
2. Italian
3. Austrian
4. Korean
5. American mid-west
Also loved the steaks in Buenos Aires but not enough variety, especially in terms of veggie dishes. Not a fan of Mexican or Indian - can't handle spicy food.
Pretty much every nation's cuisine (that I've sampled) has at least two or three world class dishes.

Re: Food thread
If I made a list... it would probably be something like:
-Thai
-Italian
-Chinese/Vietnamese
-Indian
-Mexican
-Spanish
-French
-Japanese
And damn you for making me think of food, I was already hungry and struggling not to get something from my cupboard before going to bed!

Just curious because I am at midwesterner, what are your favorite things about American midwest food for you to rank it so high?
