Congrats Gilles Great fight!

Sorry Silver about Roddick, it's a tough feeling when a favorite retires. I hope for the best for Roddick this tournament.

This match is putting more toll on him, it seems. He said he's hurting everywhere now. And what's motivating him for his next match against Fish? The Plane! Funny, but it's not a good sign, not a good sign at all.

L'Equipe:

On verra bien.»

That's too bad, I was hoping he would feel a little bit better after two days off. Oh well, I still think he's underselling his chances a little bit. I think he has at least a small chance to beat Fish. Either way, I'm glad he got to the third round so I can see him live on Saturday unless he's on Ashe.

i hope he's okay. Davydenko doesnt have a serve ither and he still really could have beaten fish in 3 sets if he maintained his level from sets 1 and 2.

A bit annoyed that they don't have the overall W/UE counts for the overall stat for R1, so I just added up all the points in the rally stat, they even have forced error counts:

Gilles W/FE/UE : 52/42/51
Russell W/FE/UE: 31/27/60

I just saw that. That's really cool and exciting. It's just too bad that he's not going to be anywhere near 100% obviously and too tired to boot to make it much of a match probably, but, at the same time, I don't think Gilles has ever had a prime time at the US Open night match on Arthur Ashe Stadium before.

I know it's really only because he's facing an American in Mardy Fish, but at the same time, it feels like a reward for Gilles for fighting it out and still being able to make it to the 3rd round despite the injury. I would say he will be more than satisfied with his decision to go ahead and come to the US Open and play. He deserves this grand stage appearance.

Too right! I'm looking forward to it. Hope he does the best he can, but i'm not expecting anything.

Allez Gilles!

So here we go. Hope he put up a good scoreline, since he kept saying he really worries that he’ll get thrashed. C’mon Gilles, do your best, we are already really proud of you for fighting so hard to get here. He really has nothing to lose, and if he loses this match, he’ll gain more time to get his shoulder healed sooner.

Allez!

-------------------------------------------------------------
That’s yesterday’s L’Equipe, nothing much, just more of how miserable he is…

Or Gilles doit absolument garder ça… »

Oh man i'm already cringing. The announcers are really buttering up Simon and they have no idea that he is injured and won't be able to serve or really be very aggressive. This one announcer guy especially is really boasting about Simon's abilities and he thinks he will win.

These guys just have no idea about Simon's condition. The one guy just asked the other how Simon gets away with a serve so slow like that's how Simon always serves or something. They think Simon is nervous because of the home crowd and that he will start serving bigger as the match goes on. They have no clue what's really going on.
