Kafelnikov has the better career on paper but Safin was always more of a personality.
Yevgeny is class but he had a personality like the PMK (hence his nickname) so he wouldn't be as fondly remembered.

Kafelnikov was a joy to watch when he was on - his baseline pure striking was one of the best of all time. He was my favorite player of the 90's, so my vote goes for him  |

safin of course. he's played in an era where I've had access to live tennis outside queens/wimbledon.
can't remember having watched many specific kafelnikov matches live

Kafelnikov had by far the better career (and was the better player also), but Safin will be more remembered due to his looks and personality...
