Statistics tell a different story. Davis Cup rubbers are usually won by younger more enthusiastic competitors. The older more experienced players tend to lack the motivation and energy for DC atmospheres.

It's a matter of mindset, I saw Ferrero's last three matches and it was a different player against Kukushkin than against Mayer and Nishikori.

There were more ranking points up for grabs. I wouldn't say he was a different player but he certainly held his nerve better than Kukushkin when it mattered.

Do you really think that for a former No. 1 it makes any difference whether he is in the Top 40 or Top 50?

He would have retired a long time ago if he thought a ranking of 20-50 was not worth fighting for.

I like both players, happy for Kei and sad for Juan.

Losing to Mayer and Nishikori is nothing compared to losses he's had in the European clay swing to much lower ranked players. The only real suspicion here is that he's 32 years old when critics always question motivation. Every losing streak is hyped ten fold because of age.
He just looks done to me..... think this will be his last year on tour, he doesn't have the physical ability to do his talents justice anymore.
