Never in doubt. Just like Federer shits himself against Nadal Davydenko does the same against Federer. They both played great tennis. Very good match apart from the choking of course. Good to see Davydenko playing well again. He should build on this.

First set was not great from Fed, Davy was bossing, second set Davy let his level down a little and Fed hit a couple of good shots to give him his confidence back, it's good he didn't run away with it after that and the final set was still in doubt for a while as it made it a more worthwhile win.

Will need to play better tomorrow to beat Delpo but a good result nonetheless

And people who call Denko a choker . Chokers don't own Nadal . It's much easier to choke against Nadal than against Fed, just things like this come when you loses first 4 or 5 times to the same guy

On the positive side for him his level is clearly much better than last year and he could be dangerous early on in draws in IW & Miami...

The less said about Roger the better. It will be a travesty if he wins this title given who he's beaten and how he's beaten them i.e. choking by opponents. Del Po has shown a great level and I hope he brings that tomorrow. Time for the Tower of Tandil to begin his assault on the top 4. I don't quite understand why Fed's been so poor post-Aus Open though - he was great there and then suddenly Fed Cup & Rotterdam he's been Shankerer most of the time...

Weird. The "partisan witch hunt" against Rick Perry is being led by Republican-appointees.

Nonsense. Davydenko played incredibly brave and well for almost the entire match.
Especially on most of those break point opportunities against him.

Mr. Federer was simply awful in the first set off of both wings and Davydenko rightly spanked him.
Federer stopped making the errors in the second set, and that set and the third set made this the best match of the tournament. It was anybody's match, then at 3-4, Federer came back from 0-40 with good serving and one tight netted backhand from Davydenko to 4-4. Federer went into unplayable mode, broke Davydenko at love and served out the set.

Davydenko has nothing to be ashamed of.

Respectfully,

On indoor hard yes. He won't bagel him on slow outdoor hard & certainly not on clay. I'd quite like a few claycourt meetings this year to even up that H2H to be honest. He's not a bad player so having a 4-6 H2H not atrocious IMO but it'd be nice to sort it out while he has the chance.

I really don't see how Federer still sees himself playing 4 years from now when he plays matches like this. It's clear he's declining and sure with his talent he could still be a top 10-20 player even 2-4 years from now but is that what he wants?! I can't see him staying top 4 beyond 2013 - have to doubt he'd still keep playing despite his pronouncements about having no plans to retire....

Very tough play from both guys. Well done, champ. you will need to play even better against Del Potro tomorrow although he does not move as well as Nikolay IMO. Keep going strong, Kolya.

Thumbs up Re: Rotterdam SF: Federer def. Davydenko 4-6 6-3 6-4

To quote the church lady on SNL "Wasn't that "special"...turning point of course with Fed being down 3-4 and Davy leading 40-15 and then out came the magic wand plus the great rally they had with Fed pulling it out! Highly entertaining and riveting match..you're not dead yet Fed...good comeback!

Entertaining match. Some good fight from Olderer.

Davy hitting that BH into the net at 4-3 ,15-40 in the third set

Liked the way Fed ran like a madman to go 0-30 on Davy's serve in that penultimate game.

Just have to add, it's really nice to see pure ballstriking and up-tempo tennis for once.
It's not like it's all 1-2 punch, or serve & volley - the match was almost all played at the baseline, with some stunning crosscourt shots, changes of direction, half volleys, and some great defense too.

Much prefer this to slow court grinding that we're going to see at IW and Miami.
