Finally Olderer found someone who outchokes him. Davydenko had 3 mini-matchpoints, then he suddenly realized that Federer is on the other side of the net, losing 9 points in a row to see his master serving for the match. What a turkey!

Number of Denko's chokes against Federer is amazing considering that the Russian player is usually very stable mentally (despite his awful body language) when he leads.

A couple of good things here:
Feds 'winning ugly', which he sometimes doesn't bother to do (Tankerer). Note: Fed's 'winning ugly' is still better to watch than most grinders.

Davy playing really quite well actually, apart from a few obvious facepalm moments and a certain amount of choking.
He was actually really clutch on a lot of break points, saving something like 10 of 13, but no one will remember that
Hope he has a good season, although there won't be many more quasi-fast indoor courts like this where he can play his best.

Default Re: Rotterdam SF: Federer def. Davydenko 4-6 6-3 6-4

Choke from Davydenko - reminded me why I never liked him (other than him beating Nadal so many times ) - players who have the talent but just choke against the top 2-3 really irritate me. You could see the final break coming a mile off as soon as he didn't capitalise on the break points. All mental. On the positive side for him his level is clearly much better than last year and he could be dangerous early on in draws in IW & Miami...

The less said about Roger the better. It will be a travesty if he wins this title given who he's beaten and how he's beaten them i.e. choking by opponents. Del Po has shown a great level and I hope he brings that tomorrow. Time for the Tower of Tandil to begin his assault on the top 4. I don't quite understand why Fed's been so poor post-Aus Open though - he was great there and then suddenly Fed Cup & Rotterdam he's been Shankerer most of the time...

Regarding the fact that he isn't winning matches of this type lately Fed will take wins like this anywhere and anytime . Sad for Kolya, he really needed this win . But you see on Kolya body language why this H2H is that bad . Against neither one guy Kolya doesn't look like a beaten man who admires to opponent expect when he plays Fed

Lots of drama here.

First, Davy up a set and break, you think maybe he will finish in straights?!?! No, Federer fights back, wins 4 games in a row, wins the 2nd 6-3.

In the 3rd, Fed has shitload of BP chances, but doesn't take any. 5 I believe, in the early couple games of the third.

Davydenko, though, has a 0-40 chance when Fed served at 3-4, but didn't take advantage. I think he had a 4th BP too, but didn't win that one either. The worst was at 15-40 when he had the backhand DTL lined up, Fed was running the other way, sure winner, he puts it into the net After that, Fed hit 2 aces to get the advantage, and held.

After Fed held for 4 all, you knew it was over. Denko was broken the next game and Fed served it out to script.

What an effort and fight from Roger
glad to see him win one of these close ones for a change.

Great match overall, especially the third set was high quality affair.
Good week for Kolya, clearly he still has some life left. As for Roger, congrats again, and hope he has something in the tank for tomorrow.

ALLEZ!
