Nice to see that Slice Winner has included the only worthwile skill in his analysis. Of course, I can also go ahead and give Nole a 10 in everything without even reading this thread.

Default Re: Rank the following qualities of the top 4 from 1 to 10

you cannot put an "number" (arbitrary score) for something like this

or even for music- theres always differing opinions

and even then you cant simplify it to the point of backhand and forehand

you miss out so much

sure nadal's toppsin forehand is great o clay- but to win on hardcourts he had to flatten it out, and even then its an adequate shot at best

and how about splitting topspin, slice and flat backhands

no, i've come to the conclusion that you can't just put a universal number on these things

too many variables (a scientist would say)

how does one compare forehands in different era's
and surface variance

quite frankly its a nightmare- i can only imagine the amount of work required to make a repeatable test that would work on all players and all surfaces that then (and only then) could be used to give out a universal scoring system

Forehand: 8.5
Backhand topspin/flat: 9.5
Backhand slice: 6
Serve: 8
Return: 10
Net play: 7 (good coverage, but doesn't always place volleys well - no killer instinct)
Physical Strength & Fitness: 10 (after Aus Open 2012, nothing needs to be said)
Mental Strength: 9.5 (Occasionally guilty of clowning, which makes him lose focus)
Tactics: 8 (Good, but I don't see this as his strongest point. Occasionally overuses dropshots (often in combo w/ lobs))
Movement: 9.5

Nadal
Forehand: 9 (Amazing power and spin, not very versatile though)
Backhand topspin/flat: 7.5
Backhand slice: 4 (decent floating defensive slice, terrible otherwise)
Serve: 8 (the peak was about 2 tournaments though)
Return: 8.5
Net play: 7 (good at dealing with easy putaways, good reflexes, weaker on difficult/low volleys)
Physical Strength & Fitness: 10
Mental Strength: 9.5 (sometimes gets down on himself for UEs, otherwise perfect)
Tactics: 7.5 (builds points well, but wins come more due to mental strength than tactics. Clueless against Djokovic 2.0)
Movement: 10

Federer
Forehand: 10
Backhand topspin/flat: 8
Backhand slice: 9
Serve: 9.5
Return: 9 (peak Fed's ROS >> 2012 Fed's ROS)
Net play: 8.5 (fantastic hands, occasionally blunders on easy/high volleys)
Physical Strength & Fitness: 9 (probably deserves higher for never retiring, but purely match stamina)
Mental Strength: 9 (Peak Fed very clutch, similar to Sampras, relying on serve. Sometimes throws in towel in 5th set)
Tactics: 8.5 (His point construction is underrated. Mixes his style depending on opponent/surface probably more than the others of top 4)
Movement: 9.5

Murray
Forehand: 7.5
Backhand topspin/flat: 9
Backhand slice: 8
Serve: 7 (big 1st serve, terrible %, terrible 2nd serve)
Return: 9.5
Net play: 7.5 (good hands and anticipation. Often gets way too tight to net)
Physical Strength & Fitness: 9.5
Mental Strength: 7 (Alternates between brilliant 2-sets-down victories, and not showing up mentally. Gets angry at himself each match, etc.)
Tactics: 6.5 (Actually capable of very good tactics, ruined by mental collapses and/or incessant pushing. No killer instinct 90% of the time)
Movement: 8.5 (incredibly quick, but doesn't always use his feet well)

Totals (out of 100)
Djokovic: 86
Nadal: 81
Federer: 90
Murray: 80

Looking at this, I feel like Murray should be lower, but it's because I gave a whole category for slice backhand instead of averaging slice and topspin backhands, in which case entire thing would be a little closer, but I CBA adding things again.

(Edited to include movement)
Hey man i will do for Davydenko in his PEAK (cause i think he belongs in top 5 if he had peaked right now) I will try to be as objective as i can be (cause i had been his fan since 2005) AND REMEMBER he has got 2 peak versions Djkovic went from more Offensive orientated baseliner to more Defensive one ... first peak one version - Davy (2005,2006,2007) was a retriever with wings (backhand and forehand like little weapons and still could attack good but not as good as in 2009,early 2010) Davy from 2009 till today he's a SUPER HIGHLY AGGRESSIVE baseliner (but can attack from inside the court too) but his second peak version was 2009, early 2010) Davy in 2008 was a mystery (it was a mix of both versions + his shittiest mental strenght but with glimpses of godly brilliant tactics !

Davydenko
Forehand: 8 (often caughts the ball on the rise and very effective on the run Both Crosscourt and DTL) he uses something between eastern and semi-western grip but more of a semi-western grip...
Backhand topspin/flat: 9.5 (His backhand in his peak was supernatural like todays Djokovic but with a little more offensive approach on it) too hits the ball on the rise)
Backhand slice: 4 (he hits the slice with TWO HANDS so it's atrocious i give 3 for his defensive slice and 5 for his offensive one which he always uses it crosscourt and it's sometimes useful but overall 4)
Serve: 6.5 (VERY VERY HIGH PERCENTAGE 1st serve thus not so dangerous average 2nd serve but sometimes he makes a bit much Double faults not as much as mugdasco but ... to add his record serve is 138mph so it can be powerful weapon DTL on deuce side but prefers his high percentage serve)
Return: 9 (it would've been 9.5 but sometimes he's too short to reach it but compensates with extremely quick reflexions when the serve is in the body...attacks 2nd serve extremely good)
Net play: 6 (5 net play for his first peak version and 7 for his second one he is GOD in drive volleys, somehow good in low volleys which became drop volleys and MASTER of overhead/smash i saw him countless times doing it from 3-4 foots inside the baseline and doing winners by it!!! disadvantages are too short, awful approach to the net (he could do it only in his second peak version) bad at putaways and he does the backhand volley with using his two hands so ...6)
Physical Strength & Fitness: 9.5 (his best stat..... sometimes gets out of breath after long rallies but that doesn't affects him (cause he restores his normal breathing in minimal time) and otherwise superior endurance (hopping on place on return always even after a 5 setter) and he is only using 20 seconds between points in his peak i saw him sometimes even going instantaneously after the point directly on the baseline when returning serve...)
Mental Strength: 6 (Delightful when being the underdog in the match and twice as delightful when he's loosing... indeed he's delightful in about 75% of the cases when he's leading too... he just doesn't gives a heck who he is against (if not his name is Federer of course ) not at all good at SET POINTS he hates them he abhors them ... they're just a hell of a shit for him the next is BREAK POINTS he's not as bad as he's in set points but still quite average...GAME POINTS ... average playing in them too .... MATCH POINTS i can say he plays supreme there while playing them ... but his NIGHTMARE is generating them ! (the other ones mentioned he's good at generating them but chokes them so...) somehow a little above average in tie-breakers and attention he's second in the charts in title/finals ratio 21/6 (i love it) thus forming him approximate rating of 6)
Movement: 9.5 (It literally screaming quick... fast... swift ... agile... nimble... from side to side ... laterally ... chasing drop shots...) his only minor disadvantage is that sometimes when he sees he can't chase some ball down (or even just right after he hits on the run an awful lob or an easy ball in the opponent) he literally walks right to the towel ..... pointing at a ball boy ..... goes to his bench/chair thus he doesn't generate pressure in his opponent which leads in confidence in the opponent and easy putaway/winner..... Warning he's more of a OFFENSIVE mover than defensive but he is excellent in defensive movement too ... his footwork is genius and always is ready to be next to the balls bounce to hit it right after it bounces.

ATTENTION
Luck level: from 1 to 100 ----> 0
i don't only mean it ... he just has no imagination of what a luck is .....

This thread feels like Top spin 4...

Anyway, when marking groundstrokes you are doing it wrong. There are different types of shots. When it comes to topspin shots, Nadal is probably the greatest of all time. However, his flat strokes are very poor. Then you have things like defensive slice, offensive slice, approach shots, drop shots, lobs. I think this task is a lot trickier to measure than what most people have done.

I think you'll need more categories or to split the existing categories:

Forehand (Flat, Spin, CC, DTL)
Backhand (Flat, Spin, CC, DTL)
Serve (1st, 2nd)
Variable Shots (Volleys, Drop Shots, Lobs)
Physical Attributes (Strength, Speed, Stamina, Agility, Reaction Time)
Mental Strength (Fighting Spirit, Ability to Block Out Crowd, Killer Instinct)
Strategy
