Isner is actually really good on certain clay. Everyone obviously remembers Roland Garros.

No surprise Isner is the only man ever to force Nadal to play 5 sets at Roland Garros.

It really makes me wonder how Federer, the last man to play such graceful tennis, has so many haters. You aren't really a fan of tennis if you hate his game.

Federer has haters primarily because of his personality, not because of his talent. I respect his tennis immensely, but I definitely am not a fan whatsoever. Also, I think my hatred of Federer is increased by almost every Fed fan I've met in real life who says some variation of "anyone who knows anything about tennis should be a huge Federer fan" or "if you're not a Federer fan, you don't like tennis".
I don't have to like a petulant, bitchy diva who behaves like a bitch when he loses just because he plays gracefully.

3 factors:
1) People generally can relate to (and gain inspiration from) players who rely on great work ethic, more than great talent.
2) People generally prefer humble people.
3) Federer's game is modelled on the text book. When you watch Federer vs Nadal live at the AO, it is Nadal's unorthodox shots that look more spectacular and more entertaining.
And I was a Federer fan in 2003 but quickly switched to being a Nadal fan before 2004, and never looked back.

LOL Lovefifteen...preach it, sister! I actually like Fed more these days because he shows some vulnerability. When he was in his prime, rooting for Federer was like rooting for God. He NEVER lost! Now that he's kinda declining, it can be fun to root for him since the outcome is more uncertain.
Still, as an American, I was rooting for Big John today, and boy did he deliver!!!

That was how I summed up the match. Federer talks big about Davis Cup, but his actions show that he doesn’t care about Davis Cup as much as he does winning in other arenas, and especially a GS. I have no doubt he would have fought hard to win even after being down had this been a GS tourney.
But, I’m happy things turned out this way even if I do see Isner’s win being a bit devalued because Fed lacked top motivation.

I agree, it is hard to imagine Isner knocking Federer out of a slam. Seems extremely unlikley. Then again, Berdych knocked Federer out of Wimbledon 2010. We'll see. Maybe Federer is about to lose early in slams. Either way, props to Isner. He looked truly dangerous at Roland Garros vs Nadal. Isner is the first player I'll look for when the slam draws come out from now on. Usually I look for Tsonga first (even though Nadal has beaten Tsonga in 4 straight outdoor hardcourt meetings).
