Here is the original Bengali song with subtitles..

I didn't know it was from Bengali but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised

The lyrics are different and the setting seems to be darker(sadder)?

I have only seen a couple of them- one was Shatranj ke Khiladi; the other was something in Bengali with subtitles. Can't remember the name but it had something to do with some idealistic person trying to solve the water problem in a town and the ensuing political drama(). Sorry, it was a long time ago

You are right, this was a very sad/depressing movie (remember watching it as a kid). Nice @ Ray movies. He has a series of detective movies (the protagonist's name is Feluda) which are a favorite of mine.

Here is another favorite Bengali song from yesteryears- also sung by Hemanta Kumar. Note that the guy is wearing eye-liner and lipstick

/bengali song spamming

Nice selection of songs ashi - keep 'em coming I had not heard Rahat Fateh Ali before, looks like he is living up to the high expectations set by his uncle !

BTW, haven't watched any hindi movie in ages (like 6 months )- any good recommendations from recent ones from anyone ?

Didn't know that. Grad school had a nice collection but I was too busy covering IMDB's top 250. Now it's harder to find these movies.

Nice melody. Love Hemant Kumar's voice. The la la was too funny though I am no stranger to the great make up ways of our yesteryear movies Feel free to spam more Bengali songs. Here's something that has Bengali origins

I like RFAK much more than Nusrat even though it's blasphemous to say that I recognize NFAK's genius but I cannot always appreciate all those creative bits he added.

Nice song, Shinoj. Do you have SA roots as well?
