Default Congratulation to the King of Doubles: Leander Paes

Congratulations to Leander Paes for his 7th mens doubles grand slam title . He won this when he won his first Australian open title today alongwith his new partner Radek Stepanek. Incredibly, this is is 49th ATP mens doubles title & came 14 years after he won his first one with Mahesh at Chennai open in 1997.

These are their results this week -

2012 Australian open championhips

[R1] Leander Peas (IND) / Radek Stepanek (CZE) d.Greg Jones (AUS) / John-Patrick Smith (AUS ) 62 62
[R2] Leander Peas (IND) / Radek Stepanek (CZE) d. (14) Simone Bolelli (ITA) / Fabio Fognini (ITA) 62 76(5)
[PQF] Leander Peas (IND) / Radek Stepanek (CZE) d. (3) Michel Llodra (FRA) / Nened Zimonjic (SRB) 75 76(2)
[QF] Leander Peas (IND) / Radek Stepanek (CZE) d. (10) Eric Butorac (USA) / Brunu Soares (BRA) 64 76(4)
[SF] Leander Peas (IND) / Radek Stepanek (CZE) d. (2) Max Mirnyi (BLR) / Daniel Nestor (CAN) 26 64 64
[F] Leander Peas (IND) / Radek Stepanek (CZE) d. Bob Bryan (USA) / Mike Bryan(USA) 76(1) 62

These are the summary of his 7 mens doubles titles -

Australian open(1) - 2012 with Radek Stepanek
French Open (3)- 1999, 2001 with Mahesh Bhupathi , 2009 with Lukas Dlouhy
Wimbledon (1) - 1999 with Mahesh Bhupathi
US Open (2) - 2006 with Martin Damn , 2009 with Lukas Dlouhy

Add to that 6 mixed doubles GS and probably tomorrow is going to be his 7th with Vesnina

Have your words guys and salute this legend of tennis

How about we say, Radek should also thank Leander because Radek didn't win any slam until he found Leander Paes.

Man, we can make this look so ugly, but we shouldn't. These are two good people who have won the game, let's just keep it there. Yes, Radek has played fantastic. and I am happy for him. Hope long may the partnership continue and they keep winning.

as for this thread, it's on Leander, So I want to mention that I, as an Indian, really is in serious awe of him. He was having tears of joy over there during the presentation ceremony. It means a lot to him. He is son of two Olympians, he plays for the country first and he is glad to have done that for the country than for himself.

What a legend, having won grandslams with different partners. He literally is a special special player of this generation

Long overdue for Leander. Just needs Roland Garros Mixed to have all 8 doubles slams. Hopefully he can win that and then plays 2013 Aussie Mixed with Lisa Raymond and win that with her too

Very good doubles knowledge Mr.Uranium...Indeed Leander won everthing now except Roland Garros mixed..And Mahesh Bhupathi another Indian won everthing except Aussie Mens..Whereas Leander is having 13( Md-7 Mx-6) and probably tomorrow is going be his 14th one. And Mahesh already has 14 Slams( Md-4 Mx-10)..Only Bryans have so may GS like Indians, even Nestor(Md-7 Mx-2)Knowles(Md-3 Mx-1), Zimonjic(Md-3 Mx-4)are way behind than Leander and Mahesh.

I really like Leander Paes not just for his tennis, but he seems like a truly nice man

Of course. By no means am i suggesting radek carried leander to victory. Just some of radeks rallys were out of this world.

Fully agree...Radek was the MVP in the match but Leander was too awsome and the way leander choose Radek whereas other doubles specialist choose doubles player only it was great decision ath end. I have followed the Semis against Minyi-Nestor and the final against Bryan twins and felt this duo of Paes-Stepanek would may end up winning few more slams with long hard look into the No1 position. Very tough to beat if they continue to play like this...And they are experiance enough for the same

Very emotional sometimes I guess ...he deserved all these after match emotions after loosing gruelling 1999 Final against Rafter-Bjorkman, 2006 three setter against Bryan Twins and again last year against Twins...So long due finally got..And it shows that if you have the will to get something you can always achieve it...

Also remarkable is this guys longevity. He has been playing professionally since the early 90s. The fire and hunger he has for the game is incredible.

Really? everything I've ever read about him has been negative, though his game is amazing, probably the best to watch of doubles specialists
