Meaning he didn't play well. It was a closer match than the scoreline shows, but Noah didn't use his BPs and Sekou did. It happens, Sekou is much older and more experienced.

Did not play well? That could be said about anybody who loses a match. Did Nevolo or Jason Jung play well and lost? We don t know that they also feel that they did not play well. Or are you saying that Rubin can only lose if he does not play well?

Sekou is older, more experienced and probably stronger but then again we did not use these comments when Rubin beat Nevolo or Jung, who are also bigger, stronger, more experienced and etc. we can t just pull out " did not play well, bigger older, stronger" card to justify a loss.

Noah is doing fine, competing on a low level futures level at 16 and winning matches, getting to the semis. He is not going to dominate the futures scene just yet. Does not have the game or the ability yet but watch out in a year or two.

There are other kids his age who are not dominating futures yet but certainly have semifinals and finals appearance almost every other week. Quinzi, Edmund Kokkinakis, nishioka, pavlasek, saville, and a few others. It will be interesting to see if Noah can break top 1000 in the next 6 months. The guys I mentioned are anywhere from 300 to 800 ATP.

To be fair, they played more futures than him. Anyway, Noah is back in NY so who knows when his next pro event will be. Bangoura has been playing well in the last couple of months beating Sandgren and Buchanan and many of his losses were pretty close. I don't think this is a bad loss.

His twitter attitude after the match did make it seem like he had an off day rather than only getting outplayed like the week before. He's always the angriest when he feels like a loss was completely his fault (i.e. missing chances and hitting lots of errors).

Gotta love that tennis player mentality.

Noah is a very good competitor! In that department I think he is ahead of most of his peers. Btw, are you a UVA fan? If you are, you should know that Thai Kwiatkowski, Luca Corinteli and Jordan Daigle are now oficially Hoos!

Speaking of Thai, I did get a couple points of his qualifying match at the Charlottesville Challenger on video on my phone (so, a really bad video). I won't be able to find time to upload them anytime soon though.

Uva is putting together a very strong team, even when Jenkins leaves.

Looking like UCLA will be a bit better (on paper) the next couple of years, though. I'll be glad to have UVA just be in the discussion of possible winners.

You mean UCLA is better on the paper in terms of they recruits the got for next year or in general?

I mean their roster in general. Assuming all of their players come back healthy for next season, they will return their 5 best players along with adding Mackenzie Macdonald, Gage Brymer, etc... while UVA graduates Jenkins, which is a huge loss, and a depth player in Julen Uriguen (and a couple others could go pro, who knows?). So UCLA definitely returns the best depth of anyone in the nation, which will probably jump them to preseason favorites.

I could hesitantly predict what next year's lineups will look like assuming no one goes pro or gets injured. Pretty much all the names should be recognizable since both schools do an astonishing job of attracting mostly top American players.

UCLA
1 Marcos Giron
2 Denis Novikov
3 Clay Thompson
4 Adrien Puget (he was something like top ten ITF)
5 Dennis Mkrtchian
6 Mackenzie Macdonald

UVA
1 Alex Domijan
2 Mitchell Frank
3 Mac Styslinger
4 Justin Shane
5 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski
6 Ryan Shane/John Harrison Richmond/Luca Corinetlli

Pretty accurate analysis. I thought for some reason that puget is graduating this year. Novikov may turn pro as well. I d say it s pretty even with the first three. Frank , domijan and Mac are pretty even with Giron Novikov and clay. I d even give uva a slight edge. Next three could tilt towards ucla since Thai and Corinteli are freshmen but Richmond and Shane will have a year behind them.

Default Countdown: Kwiatkowski Decides

It's official, congrats to Thai.

Quote:

The question wasn't so much where Thai-Son Kwiatkowski would go to college, but whether he would go.

Kwiatkowski, 17, a Blue Chip recruit from Charlotte, N.C., said he has played tennis as long as he can remember and wants to reach its highest level - the ATP Tour.

"I never thought that college would be my path, but I can still mature and get better in college," he said. "For sure, I've always wanted to be a touring pro."

Ranked fourth in the senior class and first in the Southeast by Tennisrecruiting.net, he recently committed to the University of Virginia. Given his background and the Cavaliers' excellent tennis program and academics, it would have been beyond stunning if he had picked anywhere else.

"My parents actually met at UVa, so it's pretty ironic," he said. "Both my parents went to UVa. I've been to the school many times and watched football and basketball games. I love the school, love the campus.

"I've always dreamed of going to UVa. They're No. 2 in the country and they've been to the finals many times, so I'd love to help them make that next push."

From NCAA individual crowns to team indoor national titles, the Cavaliers have accomplished just about everything possible in collegiate tennis - except an NCAA team championship. They were runners-up in 2012 and '11, semifinalists in 2010 and quarterfinalists in 2009, losing to Steve Johnson and Southern California all four times. They fell in the semis in 2008 and '07, to Georgia on both occasions, and in the quarterfinals in 2006 and '05.

It seems certain the Cavaliers will remain among college tennis' elite. A panel assembled by Tennisrecruiting.net rated UVa coach Brian Boland's 2012 spring class, headed by Mac Styslinger, the nation's best. Kwiatkowski and fellow Blue Chipper Jordan Daigle of Lafayette, La. are among the guys who will give the Cavaliers another top-rated group for 2013.

If Kwiatkowski's parents' background didn't preordain him to Charlottesville, his familiarity with Andres Pedroso might have. Pedroso is now a Virginia assistant coach, but the former Duke star coached Kwiatkowski long before the recruiting process.........read more
