I watched Brian lose to Malisse in 4 sets at the 2005 US open after he had beat Guadio in straights. Unfortunately, shortly after that he suffered a hip injury (I think the same one that has plagued Kuerten) and wasn't seen again until this week in Nashville, his home town, where he lost in the second round to Kendrick 6-4 7-6(4). I figured that he was only playing because the tournament is in his home town, but he's appeared in the Champaign qualifying draw. Does anyone know if he's coming back full time? He was a promising young American before he got injured and it'd be nice to see him back on track.
It's been awhile since anyone posted here. It looks like Brian, who is now 26 and hasn't played since 2007 (when this thread was first opened), is playing in the futures event in Pittsburgh this week. He's also cruising, as he hasn't lost a set (or even been taken to a tiebreak), even blowing out Chase Buchanan 6-1 6-3 yesterday. He's playing in the final today against Roland Garros junior champ Bjorn Frantangelo. Obviously his potential as a future top American player is probably now exhausted (he had reached #172 in the world by age 19), but hopefully he can get his career going again. If he keeps this up and stays injury-free then I have to imagine he could put in a few good years on the challenger circuit. Regardless, it's nice to see that he's able to play again and will hopefully end his career on his own terms.
Brian lost in the first round of 100k challenger of Dallas to Odesnik 5-7 3-6. From what I have seen, he has a very nice stroke and a pretty good serve. He seems kinda tentative during big points ( a lot of double faults), maybe nervous. I think once he gets more matches under his belt, he will be winning more. Good luck Brian.
