Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
Should have won easely in 2 sets. He was up 5-2 in the first set before losing 5 games in a row.
Key moment was in the second set after Paire broke Chela on 4-2. He went down 0-40 but came back and hold serve.
After that it went pretty quickly.
This year Benoit will do some damage!

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
this guy has looked very promising totally curious what he is capable of. he looks to have the game to do very very well. Talent is top 10 quality but one must wonder if he's been so MIA the past few years, what's his head like??

I was dying to see this match but couldn't find any streams. I hope his next match is on a show court.

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
Sorry but Paire isn't a top 10 talent.
I like him a lot, and I hope the best for him. But the reactions about him since yesterday are quite overrating him. He has a great footwork, BH and a good serve. But his FH isn't good enough to be a "top 10 potentiel". Moreover he need experience on the ATP tour, and to improve in the mental department. He is so unconsistent. Each year he has a run of hard loses on first round of challenger : he can't keep his motivation high all the time. I think he improved already a lot considering from where he was in this department, but he has still a lot of improvements to do.
If Benoit has a good year, he will be around top 40. I think his goal for this year should be to join the top 50, it would be great. And after he could think to be a top 20-top 30 player.

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
I didn't see any comments on top-10 potential.
Talent and potential are completely different things.
I agree that Paire is a top-10 talent but of course is not a top-10 potential. He is a top-40 potential IMO.
It's a shame that his forehand technique is so awful... because with a decent forehand he would be really good cause the rest of his game is excellent.

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
I don't see the difference between "top 10 potential" ("he has the potential to be a top 10 player one day") and top 10 talent ("he has the talent to be a top 10 player one day"). Maybe my enlighs isn't good enough...
I like him, but I'm quite surprised about the reactions I read here and yesterday against Ferrero. I think that people expect too much already from him, and will be disappointed about him whereas they shouldn't if Benoit makes the top 50 this year.

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
If Tipsarevic and Almagro can make the top 10, there's no reason he can't. Anyways, he doesn't have to be a top 10 player to be interesting or fun to watch, which is why we are commenting on him. He's ranked 90 something, he has a lot of room for improvement, and I'll be watching.

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
I imagine he'll make top50 fairly soon, then he'll have to figure out the atp tour and the occasional masters. Not always easy making that step up.

Re: Auckland R2: Paire d. Chela 5-7 6-2 6-2
He does lack the power to do damage with his FH, but a mentally stable Paire would destroy the Challengers field and be comfortably inside the top 30.
