Re: The 2012 Season Starts In Sydney
John Isner again ousted in 5 sets
Quote:
The latest example of John Isner's knack for playing marathon matches -- and, lately, losing them -- was a 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 third-round exit at the U.S. Open against Philipp Kohlschreiber that ended at 2:26 a.m. Monday, tying the tournament record for latest finish.
Isner left all four Grand Slam tournaments this year with five-set losses, and he didn't make it past the third round at any of them.
"It's disappointing," he said, staring down at the floor.
"I didn't play the right way, and that's been the story when I've lost at Slams," said Isner, at No. 9 the highest-seeded American man at Flushing Meadows. "I just played too passively and it doesn't work out when I do that."......

Venus Williams and John Isner to Play Hopman Cup
Quote:
PERTH, Australia -- Seven-time Grand Slam tournament winner Venus Williams will represent the United States in the Hopman Cup mixed-teams tournament later this year for the first time in her career.
Organizers said on Wednesday the 32-year-old Williams will team up with big-serving John Isner at the tournament in Perth, Western Australia, from Dec. 29 to Jan. 5. The teams will play a men's singles, a women's singles and a mixed-doubles match in each contest.
Williams and Isner are the second big-name pair confirmed for the tournament after Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic.
Williams said, "I've never played the Hopman Cup, so for me it's going to be a wonderful experience."

Re: The 2012 Season Starts In Sydney
One break point opportunity in three sets. Against Radek Stepanek.
Glad to see Boynton is helping you improve in that facet.
Backhand is showing great promise as well.
Can't imagine why you would ever make a coaching change. He obviously has earned loyalty from you for life...

Re: The 2012 Season Starts In Sydney
Another horrible performance.
Up 3-1 in the 3rd set with multiple opportunities to get a second break and fail.
Next service game has game point, fail to convert that, get broken.
Do nothing with Goffin's serve for the rest of the match.
Get broken at 4-5 to lose the match. The last 5 games seemed to take about 10 minutes.
Awful.

Re: The 2012 Season Starts In Sydney
Lost 6-4 7-6(5).
Once again not one break point opportunity in two sets.
Once again was in the lead in a set, this time in the tiebreak, blew it. Up 5-2 with two serves and did not win another point.
Played like an amateur from the US Open on. Really not very good after the Davis Cup tie with France.
At his age, with his reluctance to make a coaching change, it appears Isner has played his best tennis and is in slow decline.
