Default Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Australian Open.

When he was 0-3* down in the 2nd and got it back to *4-4, it was a must hold service game but he failed to do so!! Another 4th round defeat!

Credit to Ferrer though for today's performance!!

Anyway I hope Richard can take his previous round form into his next tournaments starting in Montpellier.!!

How long have you watched Richard play?? This is barely a blip on the disappointing scale.

Ferrer is a really bad match up for Richard and if you look at the stats, after the first set Ferrer played very well and that's a nightmare for Richard.

R16 at AO - not bad.

We're back on the roller coaster ride it seems. Just the other day he played fantastic tennis and today this.

Any rumors if Richard will be part of the French side who travel to Canada?

disappointing after that really good showing against Tipsarevic , that Gasquet appeared to have no belief in his ability to hang with Ferrer. I had a feeling that this would happen, given the heat of the day and the opponent . Ferrer is just his nemesis on the court. The pit bull of tennis seems to just take all the fight out of Richard . But my main objection to this whole thing is the ESPN2 coverage of the event. Yes, I know we can watch on the computer streams. But there was no other live match and with over a 2 hour window left ESPN had this match to show . And what did they do ? Interviewed Sharapova in studio and then had a lengthy in studio interview with Lendl ( ok the Lendl interview was entertaining -but it would have been just as amusing had it been in split screen or as a voiceover to the live tennis.) And the worst part - the interview took place during the one part of the match where Richard made his shortlived comeback in the second set. Is it too much to ask that a network show players other than the "big 4 " , Serena or Maria during a grand slam ? Is it too much to want to watch the matches on a big screen - not hunched over a laptop ? come on !
end of rant .
Hope Richard can build on the good matches he had during this event - and move forward. The article about his improved diet / fitness that Puschkin shared yesterday is a good sign. I like Piatti - I think he is having a good influence on Richard .
And - ok - while I have the floor - can we please point out that if Richard is going to have a twitter account - the point is to tweet ? ha ha - I knew he would never really embrace twitter - letting us know too much about his life outside tennis is not something he is gonna do . Maybe now that the AO is over for him , he will make another attempt

He does not know yet, but with none of the other Frenchies performing exceptionally well, I can't imagine that he won't be called. He was the only one playing better than his ranking, after all. Of course, Forget can pick his beloved Llodra again for singles.

Thanks. The problem is if he does play Montpellier, he travels to Canada straight after (If only he's picked) and then he has to return back to Europe for Rotterdam. Fatigue might come into play......

Edit: It looks like Richard is certain to play Montpellier as it's a very special tournament to him and he loves playing at home.

Well at least none of the others have the excuse that they are too tired from going deep in a Slam.

NOt so sure I'd say RIchard was playing better than his ranking - he should beat Seppi, Golubev didn't even show up and Tipsy didn't play anywhere near a top 10 player so it was hard to judge just how well Richard really played. and then there was the Ferrer match which probably didn't do much to boast Forget's confidence in Richard.

If Forget does ask him I wish Richard would just tell FOrget he's not playing this time - no alternate, no nothing. Tsonga, Monfils, Llodra, Simon are all better suited for what will likely be a VERY fast court and Benneteau is playing well right now so Llodra has a doubles partner.

Thanks for the info Puschkin.

one can discuss that, but the numbers are obvious!

Tsonga: nr 6, lost last 16
Monfils: nr 14, lost last 32
Simon: nr 12, lost last 64
Richard: nr 18, lost last 16

It is more than fatigue at stake, if Richard does indeed play a match on Sunday in Vancouver, it will be physically almost impossible to be in Rotterdam on time due to the different timezones. So a withdrawal for Rotterdam is very likely, if he sets a foot into Vancouver. Rotterdam does not suit him well anyway, so this won't be a big thing.
