Seeing as perhaps the final curtain is drawing on both these young mens careers, I thought this would be an excelent comparison.

Doughnut Nalbandian is very highly rated in terms of born and bred giften talent on these boards. Marat Safin has a huge fanbase though and the achievements to back it up.

Both players have beaten Roger Federer at a grand slam, although Safin did beat a more peak version of Fed.

Both players have under achieved in their careers by most peoples standards. There is no question Safin has had the better career in terms of Grand Slams, however long time tennis pundits picked Safin to win more slams than he did. Had it not been for Fed maybe he would have done better at slams, I would have loved to have seen Rafa vs Safin 08 Wimbledon.

Nalbandian has won just shy of USD $10 million career prize money.
Safin has won $14 million.

Both should probably have won more although Nalbandian is doing well to have won that much considering he has only been to 1 slam final, Safins been to more and won twice.

Nalbandian owns Nadal.

Nalbandian came soooooo close to reaching 03 US O final but thanks to a stupid fan shouting out he lost everything at the tourney to a 1 slam wonder Roddick.

Burgerbandian has shown lack of mental resolve at times, losing to one of the bigest jokes in the ATP Marcos Bahgdatis being 2 sets to love up at the 06 AO. This may have been his best chance to secure a grand slam as he was good against Fed at that time and not a GS final virgin like Marcos.

Safin however showed incredible resolve to win a match he really shouldn't have, the 05 AO semi against Federer.

Nalbandian has a Wimbledon final and Safin doesn't.

Safin beat Hewitt in a GS final, Nalbandian couldn't.

Safin is angrier breaking over 17 000 raquets in his career, however Nalbandian has shown total lack of mental strength losing to Baggy, and recently an asian unseeded player at AO 09. He has a huge gut in that match too, Safin is usually much fitter.

Safin is cooler than Nalbandian and is very funny/popular with the crowd, and has many funny convos with Chair umpires ala 07 AO vs Roddick. Nalbandian has the cardboard personality box.

Nalbandian could beat Safin in an all you can eat contest, the only player he could not beat in one of these would be WTP number 1 Dinarer Safina.

Safin held the number on ranking, Nalbandian never did.

Nalbandian did all he did while being short in height. Safin is taller, so more advantage.

i once made a similar thread but addded haas (another player full of impressive talent but big underachiever) into the list and everyone told me that the same thread had been done like a zillion times before. anyhow, i don't know the answer to that one.. safin maybe. for what is worth, he certainly was more successful.

Nalbandian was solid across all surfaces.. Reached a wimbeldon final even though he wasnt all that great on grass. Safin was pretty much just a great hardcourt player. Not very great on the other surfaces. I think Nalbandian was more talented.. But Safin does two big slam wins over arguably the two best players to ever play the game in Roger and Pete. Thats a big accomplishment
