i hate it when Pim Pim loses the close matches. 7-6 (2), 6-7 (1), 7-6 (3) is just too close. the double-fault things is true
. At least he can still qualify for the Masters Cup. Here's an article from the MS Madrd website:
Ljubicic out-guns Johansson in Madrid serving struggle
• Nalbandian is also in semifinals after beating Dent in straight sets
Madrid, 22th October 2004 (dpa) - Ivan Ljubicic went into the semifinal of Masters Series Madrid after beating big server Joachim Johansson by 7-6 (2), 6-7 (1) and 7-6 (3).
"As the match got close to the end, I was winning more points on his serve than he on mine. That gave me extra confidence in the last tie-breaker. He finished with a double-faults -maybe that was the trademark of our match- all or nothing.
Ljubicic, who defeated Johansson in the second round at the Athens Games, now stands 34-21 as he awaits an opponent from fourth seed David Nalbandian and American Taylor Dent.
"Playing the Hamburg (clay) semis was a much bigger surprise than this," said Ljubicic. "Everyone knows I can play well on indoor courts. I beat (Rainer) Schuettler and (Tim) Henman back-to-back. I don't see why I can't go all the way."
Johansson arrived in the quarters without having lost a set this week. The Swede remains level with Roddick for the most indoor wins this season (13) and with a ranking of 11th still has a chance to qualify for November's eight-man Masters Cup season final.
David Nalbandian is the second player in semifinals. He has beaten Taylor Dent by 7-6 (4) and 6-4 and will face tomorrow Ljubicic for a place in the final match.
