Is golf a sport?
Yes or no?
Why do you think so?
Why do you think it isnt?
Whos the burden of proof on here?
This could be a fantastic discusion if we keep it civil
Remember, this isnt meant to demean the game of golf. Not at all.
For example, my favourite game in the world is 8 ball. But it's not a sport. It doesnt take anything away from it, its more for classification purposes than anything else.
Of course, that doesnt mean golf isnt, Im just saying.

Conclusion: everyone is a clown, playing in a neverending clown era.

Re: Is golf a sport?
No. It's a game.
That isn't to take anything away from it. Games are some of the best things in the world - chess, backgammon, bridge, cribbage, go, Trivial Pursuit, doctors & nurses....

Re: Is golf a sport?
How about chess? Golf seems very physically demanding when compared to chess no? And some people consider chess a sport.

If a 45-50 year old guys can successfully compete on top level, it's not much of a physical ability.

This.
Sorry but something you can do standing around in a jumper is not a sport.
Unless it's cricket of course.

Re: Is golf a sport?
How about fishing, then?
I don't understand how archery, javelin throw, etc... are more of a sport than golf. and these are olympic sports..

Re: Is golf a sport?
It has been said that golf is a great way to ruin a perfectly good walk and I totally agree!

Athleticism is an essential element in any sport. Arguably, fishing & shooting don't count whereas fox-hunting & bull-fighting do. Javelin requires tremendous athleticism & archery certainly requires more than golf, but in general, just because something is an Olympic discipline, doesn't mean it's a sport, even though it may take a great deal of skill.
