2011 MTF Popularity Contest
Welcome to the 4th annual MTF PopCon, the usual way for MTFers suffering from tennis withdrawal to pass the time
get through December
The spirit of this contest is usually a positive one, a venue for people to give thanks to those in this forum that made them laugh or smile throughout the year.
It doesn't just have to be that, your reasons are your own; maybe you're grateful to someone for their great tennis analysis that made you think about a player in a different way, maybe you like the photos of your favourite player they posted, maybe they were just nice to you when you didn't expect it, or gave you a thought that resulted in a long wet dream about Roger's backhand in slo-mo or Rafa's serve improving or Novak winning the WTF or Oscar Hernandez playing the Wimbly final or Lopez and Verdasco and some baby oil or Murray... I don't know, I don't judge.
In some way, they made MTF a little better to you.
Whatever it was, this is a great place for you to let people know that you liked something that they did, at some point in time, in some way. You can even go the hipster way and just enjoy the irony of trying to make Fed's_mate get into the third round, whatever you like.
In the wise words of Shambritfan:
IF YOU'RE READING THIS, YOU LOVE MTF AND ALL ITS MEMBERS! GROUP HUG!
For past editions see:
2009 general thread and voting thread,
Unfortunately, Nathii doesn't have the time this year to co-run this so it might not be as fun as it was before.
Let's hope she comes to her senses for next year.
Send some positive energy her way.
In the meantime, you're stuck with this arrangement. Out of some sense of objectivity, I will not be voting.
Also, it goes without saying that the draw will not be rigged in your favour no matter the amount of shirtless Fed pics you try to bribe me with. (JolanGago and Thanos, nb.)
This contest is about appreciation
, first and foremost. Also about love and understanding and all that other hippie tree-hugging nonsense.
Please be as nice to your fellow posters as your blood sugar levels allow you to. When in doubt, just think about what your grandma would have said about your post before you hit submit.
Any overtly negative comments, insults and the like will be reported to the mods asap.
So long as most are well aware that you're just joking, it's fine, but malicious comments are just 'not cool'. Not even shirtless Fed pics in the same post will get you out of it. Not even that one from the AO 05.
"The other popcon" - ACC - is where the hatred flows and hopefully you got it out of your system for the year.
The draw will be made in the classical tennis format. 1v1, 256 players, 7 rounds.
Anyone can be nominated, including temporarily or permanently banned posters.
The nominations are important because the seeding will be determined by the number of nominations + past performances.
You can put up any number of nominations you want, no limit.
The reasons for your vote are your own, as is your interpretation of this contest. You don't have to put any comments with your votes, though they are encouraged.
The voting rounds are 23h
, starting at 1PM CET
(=noon GMT, 7AM EST, 10PM AEST) and ending at noon CET
(=11AM GMT, 6AM EST, 9PM AEST)
You can vote only once each round
To vote, you must have 100 posts
, 100th post included, and your MTF membership must be at least 3 months old
Withdrawing makes no difference
for your voting rights, so long as you have over 100 posts and have been a member for more than 3 months, you can vote.
In the case of a tie, there will be no sudden death, but an extended period of voting: half an hour more and everyone's votes are reset, so you can vote again even if you voted in this round already. In case that doesn't solve it either - best of the next 3 votes starting at 12:31 PM CET.
Votes exactly at the deadline are accepted, so long as the forum time markes them so (12:00 - accepted, 12:01 - not).
You can only edit your post within the first 5 minutes of posting, posts edited after that period will not count. If you made a mistake, or want to add something, you can do it in another post.
You can change your mind about a vote within the round, but only once during the entire contest
. Don't do it by editing your original post though, just say so in another post.
Generally, like in the past year, they're not welcome.
If you really don't want to play, for any reason, please PM Harmless and we'll talk about it; if you really want out, it's no problem.
Until the seeds and the draw are out, everyone nominated is in by default.
On Saturday, after the seeds are made and placed in the draw, and before the rest of the field is placed,
you can choose to withdraw if you want. The seeds will be placed around noon, and the rest near evening (GMT), so that leaves you about 5, 6 hours to decide if you want to withdraw or not. Once the draw is fully done, the game starts.
The contest will take part from the 11th to the 18th (Sunday start, Monday finish). You can nominate participants for 5 days, starting today and ending on Friday night.
On Saturday, the seeds will be announced and the draw made(live, with a random generator for non-seeds). On Sunday at 1PM, the voting can start, and we'll have a winner 8 days after that, on Monday noon.
