And just for all the climaxing Fedfans, wasn't Fed winning everything pre-AO as well? Tell me, which players made the final there?

Any rational person will not say all the current success he is having in the non GS tournaments guarantees that he is going to be winning slams, but it doesn't hurt to be playing good tennis, if he carries on playing like this, one can reasonably conclude that he will go far at some point in the Grand slams (Hell he has been going quite far in the grand slams, there's nothing embarassing about only reaching the Semi final of a GS, many players never get this oppurtunity). By the way, at the AO he was playing some very good stuff, just was a bit unlucky to meet Nadal in the Semi finals; a player who he has had immense troubles with in the past.
Look at the NAdal/Djokovic rivalry last year; they didn't meet in any GS until Wimbledon, but look at what those wins outside of the Grand slams done for Djokovic's confidence against Nadal.

Because nobody gave a shit about this record until Sampras closed in on it, and his team and a few tennis writers began to hype it up.
Connors finished as the year end no. 1 5 years in a row from 1974-1978 but who cared about that back then.
And with the rolling ranking system, being no. 1 at the end of the year isn't any better or more significant than being no. 1 in March. I'm no Federer fan but he was the world no. 1 after Wimbledon 6 years in a row from 2004-2009. How is that any less impressive than Sampras being world no. 1 6 years in a row in late November.
Weeks spent as world no. 1 is what matters.
In fact many records have been overhyped in recent years. Emerson had no idea that he even held the grand slam title record for 30 years or so before Sampras closed in on it and the media got excited. No-one cared when Borg closed in on it including Borg himself.
No-one cared about Vilas's 57 match winning streak on clay before Nadal broke it in 2006. Vilas himself knew about his overall all-surface winning streak but didn't have a clue that he held this record on clay. And similarly Connors had no idea had he had spent the most consecutive weeks as world no. 1 before Federer closed it on it and broke it in 2007.

Dream on and give Nole(and Rafa) more motivation. Federer has never beaten Nole and Rafa to win a slam and has never beaten a defending champion to win it.

We've been through this before. Fed was the defending champion for most of his wins.

With Madrid over, Federer has widened his lead in the race to #1-by-Shanghai:
Federer: 6880 (Basel 500, Paris 1000, WTF 1500, Doha 90, AO 720, DC 25, Rotterdam 500, Dubai 500, IW 1000, Miami 45, Madrid 1000)
Djokovic: 4880 (Basel 180, Paris 180, WTF 200, AO 2000, Dubai 180, IW 360, Miami 1000, MC 600, Madrid 180)
Nadal: 4080 (WTF 200, Doha 90, AO 1200, IW 360, Miami 360, DC 280, MC 1000, Barcelona 500, Madrid 90)
Let me know if you spot any errors.

Fed will win a slam this year. He is playing better on baseline than Djokovic and Nadal. People don't believe. By the time the tourney ends big hitters are eliminated.
