Even though he's won 6 out of his last 9 tournaments (soon to be 7 out of 10), and Djokovic and Nadal are both failing to defend their points from last year? Roger is repeatedly gaining, and they're repeatedly losing. The #1 ranking is a lock if he continues like this.

He isn't gaining points in slams though. The most important tournament will be Wimbledon. If he wins it, he will be No. 1 IMO. If he fails again like in 2010 and 2011, I don't see him winning USO either.

I am really starting to support your candidature for Clown of the Year award. I mean how dumb are you? He's lost one and won one against RN. He hasn't played Djoko. You are such an idiot.

How many times have they beaten him since USO? Nadal - 1, Djokovic - 0. It looks like they are avoiding him more than he is avoiding them.

Of course.

The points the players gained in Rome 2011 will be dropped in 2 days, at the next ranking (right when Rome starts). At this point they will also of course add the points from Madrid this week:

Federer : 8520(current) - 90(Rome 2011) + 1000(Madrid 2012, if he wins) = 9430.
Nadal : 9615(current) - 600(Rome 2011) + 90(Madrid 2012) = 9105.

325 points will be the difference. Which means Nadal has to get at least 325 points more than Roger in Rome.

-If Nadal wins, he gets 1000. Final is 600, nothing Fed can do.
-If Nadal loses in final, he gets 600. 360 SF points are enough for Federer to make sure the gap gets smaller by at most 240 points and he remains #2. Taking into account Fed's cakewalk draw up to SF, an early loss by Rogi is nothing Rafa can count on, so he needs to win.
-If Nadal loses in semi, he gets 360. still more than 325, but don't forget seeded players are right into Round 2, so if Federer loses to Berlocq () in R2, he gets 45. Difference is down to 315 and Federer is number 2 for RG.

WRONG

Federer only has 90 points to defend in Rome , if he reaches the finals he's at +510

If Nadal Wins he's +400

Rogers actually gaining more if he reaches the final

EDIT: my bad , I miss-calculated

Fed plays better than Rafa Nole on baseline this year. People should see that already. He will beat both of them in a slam or two. AO is different condition and history. That time Fed isn't well conditioned and Nole still at peak.

Actually, the one you have quoted is right.
If Nadal wins, there is nothing Fed can do. This is not about how many each of them gains compared to 2011, but about the actual number of points they win in Rome 2012, for a simple reason:
The only reason why Fed can actually get to number 2 this week, is because Rafa's 600 points from Rome 2011 and Fed's 90 will be dropped in 2 days, before the tournament starts. After that, none of them are "defending" anything in Rome. It's up to their performance next week.

Yeah of course, they're so shitless scared of Roger that they try to avoid him now.

Federer really should have had this record sewn up years ago had he not clowned about during the end of 2009 and the Spring in 2010.

Unlike the overrated 'years ended as world no. 1' record which Sampras, Annacone and numerous tennis writers hyped up in the 90s, this record is actually pretty meaningful in my opinion.

A small correction if a player gets a bye in the first round and loses in the second round, he only gets first round loser points = 10 points in this case.

Thank you, I did not know that. So he needs to pass Berlocq now...So much for the number 2 ranking
I trust that the rest is correct?

No, Dr.Federer won't be able to become number 1 again ever just because he does not want to otherwise nobody on this planet can stop him not. I still believe it was Jesus Christ himself who took the form of Dr.Soderling in that excruciating RG 2010 QF and crushed the soul of Dr.Federer.
