Helfant is a stooge of Nike and IMG own the ATP in all but name. This alone hinders how much he can actually do, but whether he is willing to have a crack and do this thing properly is another thing.

It's not just about the top players, though most in here think it's all about them. You know it sucks when the WTA have got something right when it comes to the schedule, though how much of it was for player welfare or that they were struggling for sponsors at the later events.

Most of the players now are just sleepwalking through the events now. Obviously the French and Serbia have a DC final, then you have the challengers were there are players trying to make Aus Open direct that is something to play for. Look at the TMC, it's just a case who is the least tired in most cases.

There isn't a proper recovery time at the end of the season, then people will say blah blah blah they are playing exhos, well exhos usually are in a training period to build them for the next season.

At the Challenger level, there'd be people that want more tournaments, there are a lot of diverse interests in the game. But the facts are it's not a good look, with the game becoming more physical than previous, that needs more fitness base preparation, hard to do that with the length of season we have now.

wow... the axe is out... that is kinda what the sane person would say taking a first look at the tennis calendar year actually...

melbourne will have to schedule in some school holidays for around then... march is a good month for activity... the record highs will have disappeared... its one of the 6 drier months... its basically sporting heaven climate wise...economically... not so sure...

TMS on grass is a great idea, but where you will hold it? Even Queen's Club doesn't have adequate facilities for a TMS event. Not to mention the scheduling problems...

As for "cuts in other areas", what is there left to cut? ATP Tour has shrunk by like 20 tournaments since mid-90s. Combined with stale (or even decreasing) prize money, not really an attractive development!

If ATP and ITF paid more prize money at Challenger and Futures level, maybe there would not be need for more events. Challenger prize money has not increased AT ALL in 20 years.

And not long ago ITF head guy was complaining that lowest echelons of the professional game pay out too much.

Un-fucking-believable. I've began to seriously think that ITF and Grand Slam Council have outlived their usefulness. Seriously, I feel that it is soon time to bring out the rope and start looking for lamp posts.

The Australian Open is not moving from January, people need to realise that. Neither will any of the other slams for that matter.

As for the schedule, I've said it before, I really don't see that big a problem as some people make it out to be. If you have a smart schedule it is not to long at all. Players complain that the season is to long but then you see them playing pointless exhos during the off season for the benjamins. Some people need to man up, its just that simple.

The AO has been moved in the past, it can be moved again.

Playing it in January is stupid anyway...
