Hamburg on grass in June would be ideal. Currently the tournament is the most unpopular Masters Series event because German fans are not interested in clay tennis. They want to see the likes of Kiefer and Haas doing well and the only way to achieve this is to have it on grass.

The weather in Hamburg is another problem, so moving it to June would solve this. It would also put the tournament in the middle of the grass season. Halle and Queens could remain as they are, to fill the one week gap between Roland Garros and Hamburg.

Hamburg won't be played on grass and that has been explained many times clearly as to why it won't be.

But you still need to

I think the most stupid thing is that the German AMS event is played on clay and the spanish one is played indoors. Just change this and everything will go well. Hamburg Color Line Arena would be a great place for an indoors event. But I don't think ATP is even thinking about this change.

Someone speaking sense, thanks for that.

That would be great, but I don't think this is going to happen.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary to push the tournament that far back in the calendar. It would be enough if they'd schedule it in the first week of May. The woman's tournament was held during that time and the weather was always good (except for 2002, which was the last year of the tourney's existance). The problem is that the tournament is held in the middle of May (between the 10th and the 20th), when it's particularly cold ("Eisheiligen").

My Ideal Calender:
Australian Open - Hard
TMS Indian Wells - Hard
TMS Miami - Hard
TMS Monte-Carlo - Clay
TMS Barcelona - Clay
TMS Rome - Clay
French Open - Clay
TMS Halle - Grass (There would have to be an extra between RG and Wimby)
Wimbledon - Grass
TMS Canada - Hard
TMS Cincinnati - Hard
US Open - Hard
TMS Moscow - Carpet
Tennis Masters Cup - Carpet

For me there is simply no need for 2 masters series events at the end of the year. The calender should be trimmed after the US Open. Also currently there are 5 masters series events on hard. Too many in my opinion. Give one of them to grass.

I don´t really agree about all the critics concerning the Hamburg TMS played in the middle of may! Okay, it has been quite cold the last 2 years, but there have also been times when we had great weather and over 20 degrees.
How terrible and cold has the weather been at the FO this year? Anyone is talking about moving this tournament!!!

I have been to the Hamburg tournament every year since 1990 and I can definitely say that most of this years has been really nice tennis weather, not hot mainly, but nice weather to play tennis!
If they would move the tournament (what I really hope they won´t do!), I am pretty sure from that time on we would only have sun and great weather in Hamburg during the original time of the tournament!

To make a grass court event in Hamburg would in my eyes be total nonsense, they will never accept this in Halle and for this short grass season there won´t be 2 tournaments in Germany!
And to make it an indoor tournament is surely not possible either, because from september on ice hockey and handball are played in the Colour Line Arena several times per week!

I am glad we cannot take a decision like this anyway!

Overall idea good, but does need adjusting:

1) Australian Open - maybe a month later with Miami before it. Probably somebody will tell that January is the season for Hurricane Bush or some other natural/unnatural disaster. Would give us MS leading into hard court grand slam albiet decoturf (Miami) and rebound ace (AO).

2) Master series in BA feasible with some lead-up events followed by 2 further clay court MS. Good to avoid hard to clay and then to clay before RG. Currently, Indian Wells and Miami do not naturally flow in the grand slam calender.

3) Good idea to increase weeks between RG and Wimbledon. However, MS should be in Halle (advantage of indoors if rain) or Queens Club.

4) 2 MS leading up to US Open should remain as currently; MS in Toronto/Montreal followed by Cincinnati.

5) 2 MS indoors on carpet; Madrid and Paris as current.

6) Year End indoors on carpet; Shanghai.

Calender should be done top down; grand slams, then master series, then other events.

There should be a hard court master series leading to the AO.

It is essential more time between RG and Wimbledon with proper build up to Wimbledon with MS event.

Current structure beyond Wimbledon already seems very good. 2 MS on hard courts leading to US Open and 2 MS indoors leading to indoors year end event.

Overall it is the first half of the year which makes no sense. Particularly, the Indian Wells and Miami events which come after the AO, but before the clay court season.

I went to Roland Garros and couldn't agree with you more. Besides Hamburg has a roof for Center Court when the weather is bad - that's more than can be said for most outdoor tournaments.

I do not think weather is really the issue for the organisers. Hamburg has tended to lose from withdrawls owing to closeness of the Monte Carlo and Rome events which has resulted in it having a weaker draw. This year neither Federer or Nadal played and last year Nadal withdrew.

BTW the heat/humidity would be unbearable in Indian Wells & Miami in July/August. Not a good idea IMHO.
