I'm glad I didn't see this one because this loss is awful .

Oh well, he likely would have lost to Tsonga anyway so I don't think it hurts his quest for end of year top 10 that much. What's more important is improving on the performances in Shanghai and Paris. Although, if he plays as badly as it sounds like he did, he won't be doing well there either.

The good thing is that Gilles has put behind these awful losses pretty quickly before. He lost in the first round the week before his two titles so hopefully it won't have an effect on him.

I was hoping to find out what Gilles has to say about yesterday's match, as he always does do a very good job in analyzing his own game and explains in detail of what happened... However, it's quite delightful to find that he gave a very different presser this time short and encrypted . That's why I like Gilles, always make it interesting for us fans . Even Tutu couldn't offer much of what happened. Then again, we know Gilles does whatever he wants to do, Tutu has no part in it most of the time and it's not that surprising that he didn't know what Gilles is doing .Since Gilles didn't say much, it left room for journalists to make suggestions of what did happen yesterday. Fun!

From L'Equipe
Simon n’a rien à dire

Gilles' Quarter in Shanghai:

Simon – Bye
Kukushkin – Montanes
Andjuar – Q
Q – Troicki

Wawrinka – Monaco
Gong – Q
Bellucci – Tursunov
Bye – Murray

Of course he gets Murray in his QF, as always. Well, good luck Gilles.

Honestly, I'll be happy if he just gets to the quarters. There's no excuse to lose to anyone in his section but we all know he could lose to anybody.

It will be against Montanes, who defeated Kukushkin on a final set TB. !Allez!

Gilles won 6-1, 6-1

Gilles played solid and it was so nice to not see any mental lapses throughout the match. I don't know how Montanes won a match here though, he was terrible.

Gilles won 6/1 6/1 in under an hour.

I don't think he played all that well (I mean, he's playing good enough, but not as good as the score may suggest), just that Montanes' very bad.

Gilles W/UEs ratio is 14/15, Montanes is 9/30

Well, anyway, onto next round. Allez.
