Taro Daniel
Interesting.
Taro is 18 yo, he lives in Valencia, Spain, he already quit Junior Tour and plays spanish Futures, was in two Futures tournaments finals (Oviedo and Balaguer) but lost in both (to Andrey Kuznetsov and Joao Souza respectively). ATP @572
I believe his father is Spaniard? Or American? Anyway, he is playing under Japanese flag.
Speaks three languages fluently: japanese, english and spanish.

Hi Dana, 
He's half American, half Japanese. He was born in N.Y., grew up in Japan, and went to Spain to train tennis when he was 13, around the time his family moved to Europe on his father's business.
Tennis coverage in Japan is quite limited but I saw his postmatch interviews after junior GS matches during slam coverages and as you would expect he doesn't come across as average Japanese (shy and not very extrovert)---Taro is easier with himself and a bit flamboyant.  He's also tall---188 cm---it will be very interesting how he develops as a pro!

Looks like he's maturing physically and that allows him to perform consistently. This guy is really good, i wouldn't be surprised to see him around 250 within a year.
BTW her sister Kana is also one of the best "spanish" players in her age group.

I always figured he had Brazilian/Japanese mixed roots, as Daniel sounds like a Brazilian surname and there are tens of thousands of Brazilians and Japanese (Sao Paulo and Gunma Prefecture are two places in particular) with mixed Brazilian-Japanese heritage, but he has an American father, huh? Great to see him doing well! (I'm Euro-Canadian, my wife Japanese, and we have our three kids playing some tennis.)

yeah, his dad is american, mum is japanese and he lives in spain
well he is improving his ranking all the time. this week, career high on 335 and he won his first future title last month
