Andy Receives Arthur Ashe Award
Posted By Andyroddick.com Staff On 27th April 2007 @ 15:48 In Beyond The Court, Front Page Stories | Comments Disabled
Thursday night, Andy Roddick was given the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award at the 13th Annual Sports Ball on behalf of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health. Surrounding a spotlighted bouquet of brilliant orange flowers at table 17, Andy was front and center with Dave Matthews Band’s violinist Boyd Tinsley on his left and ARFoundation’s Hillary Wallace on his right. Andy’s mom, Blance, brother Lawrence and his wife, Joyce Blowshinsky from the Foundation, and other traveling friends of the group celebrated together.
“One team, one world, one cause” is their motto, and all of the honorees tonight are fighting to make these communities more knowledgable and healthy places. Cocktail hour included many fun activities for guests decked out in black-tie wear and sneakers, as the dress code called for, and sports memorabilia to bid on that would make any sports fanastic’s mouth water. The dinner coincided with the award ceremony, and Andy was the final award with a speech that sent chills down everyone’s spins.
The Sportsball 2007 was a party with a purpose, all proceeds support community health education programs and research initiatives for HIV/AIDS. Just two months prior to his death from AIDS in 1992, Arthur Ashe founded this Institute from the overwhelming amount of terminal illness in urban communittees from diseases that could have been prevented, such as diabetes and hypertension. Knowing that many of these diseases resulted from inadequate health, late detection, and insufficient knowledge on the disease, this is where the Institute began.
It was a touching evening, a humbling award, with nothing but a bright future ahead. Still ahead are more inside details from inside Chelsea Pier Sixty both on AR.com and exclusive video in Club Roddick. ALl proceeds for joining Club Roddick go directly to the Andy Roddick Foundation.
“Little did Arthur know when he died that he was helping this child (me) today for tomorrow,” Andy said as he stood at the podium accepting the award at the age of 24, the same age when Arthur won the US Open.

aww, Andy looks really handsome in his suit! and I like the new haircut. I though at first it was a buzz cut but it's much nicer!

Thanks deb!
You know guys I'm not sure if he cut his hair, or if he just didn't gel it up, or maybe he actually brushed it and got it under control.
I wonder how excited he was about this.

Re: The "What a jerk!" Thread (aka Andy's Charity Stuff!)
I dunno, it definitely looks much shorter to me... if you look at these pics next to DC pics, you can see the difference.
I'm sure he was pretty excited, after all he's a huge jerk and his charity work means nothing to him and stuff

Yeah I might agree with you. I'll have to study the pictures later
Mmm considering how much of a jerk he is I'm shocked he even showed up.
