Re: World Group Play-offs: Canada at Israel (September 16-18, 2011)
it should be tight and interesting
Raonic is back from his injiry and Sela will try to upset him
also a great match will be in the doubles where israelis Ram&Erlich (eastborn and winston salem winners this year) will play Nestor (RG and Memphis winner) and his partner (dont know who)

Will be very tight! Think it will be 3-2 either way!

Re: World Group Play-offs: Canada at Israel (September 16-18, 2011)
“Playing for my country is one of the greatest honors, and this World Group playoff is a significant moment for tennis in Canada”(RAONIC)
I think both singles (sela and weintraub ) can beat raonic after the injury .. it's 5 sets match in israeli noon (very hot!!) with the israeli noisy crowd
i think the most intersting match will be the weintaub- canadian 2nd player cause it will be close in the ranking and maybe the tie will be decided on this one

Re: World Group Play-offs: Canada at Israel (September 16-18, 2011)
Some news from Tom Tebbutt, blogging for Tennis Canada:
Quote:
Wednesday’s practice session began early in the afternoon with the worrisome news that Milos Raonic would not be participating. He came to the site but was not feeling well and soon returned to the hotel to get some sleep.
...
I had a chat with Laurendeau at the dinner and he told me a doctor had checked Raonic and that he had gastroenteritis. “It’s a 24-hour thing and I’m hopeful Milos will be able to play on Friday,” the Canadian captain said.
|
Quote:
Whoever is Canada’s top player will face the No. 2 Israeli, No. 182-ranked Amir Weintraub on Friday. At one point today I was speaking to someone inside the Israeli tennis scene and asked about the 25-year-old Weintraub. I was told about him, in slightly fractured English, “he will shake.” I think that meant he will get nervous. But you never know in Davis Cup, unlikely sometimes heroes emerge.
I spoke with someone else who told me that the biggest crowd this weekend will be on Saturday for the doubles because Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram are more popular than Israel’s No. 1 singles player, the No. 96-ranked Dudi Sela.
...
Two of Israel’s more famous players, Amos Mansdorf and Shlomo Glickstein, were at the dinner. Glickstein said tennis is not that popular in Israel and that the stadium may only be about half-filled this weekend.

I wouldn't be too worried about the temps. Milos was in To during the heat wave and it was about 40 degrees C every day, with humidity feeling more like 50 degrees C. Also, he is originally from Montenegro, a Meditteranian country. I guess it's quite hot there in summer, so he's used to it. Last, but not least, he trains in Barcelona, usually a hot city too. I think the heat is the least of his concerns, but the injury part will probably be the issue of most concern.

Re: World Group Play-offs: Canada at Israel (September 16-18, 2011)
what a awsome day ! the first match was good but the qualities of the tennis wasn't great from anyone of them...
but the second match was the most exciting davis cup match i've ever seen.. Amir had yesterday a birthday (25) and he played like top 50 player (he's around 180) he return every great serve of raonic he played veriety of shots and go for his shots
it was really exciting to sit in the crowd and in the end to sing happy birthday with the first top 50 win and second top 100 win (def. sela in israeli national championships)

Re: World Group Play-offs: Canada at Israel (September 16-18, 2011)
(CAN)Pospisil def. (ISR)Sela 7-6 6-7 6-1 6-7 6-3
(ISR)Weintraub def. (CAN)Raonic 5-7 7-5 6-3 6-1
(CAN)Nestor/Pospisil def. (ISR)Erlich/Ram 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4
Vasek has been the man of the tie so far. He was solid right from the start in the doubles match while Daniel looked flat but picked it up as the match wore on.
I just hope now that Milos has recovered enough from his illness because he now has had a day off.
2-1 CANADA
