Well, Cinci next week. Let's see what he can do.

(Oh and MsTree, I feel for you both Gillou and Andy )
He only stays at Top 10 if no one catches him this week, Almagro is only 1 win away from getting back his Top 10. Even Verdasco has a shot if he gets to the final (a big IF of course ). Anyway, I'm not holding my breath. Frankly, I rather him entering Top 10 in grander style by winning some matches.

And like you, I also prefer him just plain crap than having injury problem again . How long this neck thing is gonna linger this time? Hopefully he can play Cincy in full strength. I hate to see him loses early, but I hate it more to see him play in pain. Argh, this must be frustrating for Gilles. So the reason he can't gather the momentum is every time he starts doing well, his neck problem strikes. damn luck.

Yep me too. The rankings system just doesn't seem right sometimes players rise up the rankings without doing much occasionally.

Gilles and Richie doubles suspended due to rain. *5-4 it was at when it was stopped. Chela and Monaco to
Serve for the set

I wish I could watch this match

On L'Equipe:

He said the neck stuck since friday, it wasn't serious, but it makes him hesitates on key strokes and that made the difference in the match. It's not bad enough to stop him from playing the double (I guess bcos he doesn't really take the double too seriously ), but it's a big set back for his campaign to qualify for the Masters.

Richard and Gilles finished their double match rather quickly, losting 4-6, 1-6. All the other matches got suspended right at the moment when their match finished. So it is propably for the best that they lost quickly so they don't have to hang around more to wait out yet another rain delay .

It's unfortunate he didn't win that first round because now that Nadal is out that bottom half is wide open. He really could have made the finals here.

I'm surely not suggesting that, I think they don't need to tank to achieve that scoreline.
I was just focusing on the bright side that Richard can now concentrate on single and Gilles can move on to Cincy.

Gilles Simon Roger Cup Interview August 9th 2011

P. PETZSCHNER/G. Simon
7-5, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.

Q. There was wind up in the stands. How did it feel down on the court?
GILLES SIMON: There was no wind.

Q. At 1-All you talked with the umpire. What was it about?

GILLES SIMON: I don't know. I don't remember.

Q. He sliced all the time. Did it have something to do with the loss?
GILLES SIMON: More than his game, the problem today was me. I wasn't able to practice as I wanted before the match, so when I stepped on the court, I was not ready, I was not confident, and it was difficult for me to hit the ball.
I did the best I could, which was not much today. In fact, my neck got stiff during practice and I was not able to play as I wanted to today. I was afraid to hit. I was afraid that the pain would come.
In fact, his slice helped me because it gave me more time. If he had played faster, it would have been more difficult for me.

Q. When was the last time you hurt your neck?

GILLES SIMON: It was in Madrid. In Miami it was my back, not the neck.

Q. And there's nothing to do about all these pains?

GILLES SIMON: Not much. I try to practice, practice stronger if I can. But at the end of that practice I had my neck when I was serving. I thought, Well, I'm here, let's give it a chance.
Before that I was feeling a bit better. That happened. I didn't do too badly because I only lost the first set 7-5. The second was a bit faster.
As I said, I did my best and I couldn't do much today.

Q. Are you going to stay a bit longer here or are you going to Cincinnati immediately?

GILLES SIMON: I have to play doubles with Richard today, so I'll try to build up some confidence during that match. It's tougher during a match than during practice, though. I will try to get ready for Cincinnati.
If the pain goes away, it will be fine, otherwise I'll have to wait for the US Open.

Q. Was it real pain or was it fear of feeling pain?

GILLES SIMON: Well, the muscle was stiff. It was there. Also, because of that, I was not able to run during the past two weeks. If you don't keep practicing right and left, you lose your rhythm.

Q. You usually play doubles with Gaël. Why are you playing with Richard here?

GILLES SIMON: Well, I don't know. It just happened that way. But in Cincinnati I'll be playing with Gaël.

FastScripts Transcript by ASAP Sports

He has so many small nagging problems this season that I think he lost count. He didn't have any problem in Madrid as I can remember. The back was hurt during Queen's, or maybe I got confused too. Oh well, just hope he's fit next week, and the rest of the season.

Well Gilles and Gael lost 6-1, 6-1. Looks like that spot on Davis Cup doubles won't be happening

Hopefully, he'll do better in singles and got some good rhythm during the doubles.
