Is the roof on Centre Court an overall positive?
I know people want to see live matches, but the conditions to me just seem a bit artificial and heavy.
Certain players are seeing their games suffer because of the conditions, e.g. Soderling today was trying his hardest to ballbash through Hewitt, but the court wasn't having it.
Am I the only one who feels it's not an overall positive?
Discuss.

For decades people were complaining because of how much we lost by not having a roof. Yes, it changes things a little. It's still been a great thing for the All-England Club and tennis in general.

Yes, it's necessary actually.

It just doesn't feel like Wimbledon, you know? There's a strange kind of atmosphere with the roof closed. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

Its definatly positive. If they didn't have it on today they would have had rain delays all day. The roof gives the matches a great atmosphere too, seems a lot louder somehow.

I generally don't enjoy the vibe of matches when the roof is closed, thus far.

The vibe may not be perfect, but at least the matches happen.

Re: Is the roof on Centre Court an overall positive?
I think it is positive, but if the roof will be most matches, or all the time it just won´t be Wimby anymore, also conditions seems to different, and atmospery could be only better, because when roof is closed it is logical it is more noisy- that is more AO or US style than Wimby

Another addition to help out Federer, the indoor master.

And when were they ever not able to finish the tournament because of the weather? Right, didn't happen. It might took til monday, a whopping 1 day delay, but Wimbledon is an outdoor tournament, and it should stay that way.
I kind of like the charm of the rain delay, it makes matches extra special, provides epic momentum shifts (Henman-Ivanisevic, Nadal-Federer 08), and it just isn't Wimbledon without this for me.
Obviously it sucks for the people in the stands, and that's why I fully understand why they've done it, but still... I'm not quite sure if it was the right decision.

Re: Is the roof on Centre Court an overall positive?
It doesn't make the schedule any better as those lucky enough to finish their matches under the roof will still have to wait for their next opponent's matches on other courts to be completed if they are being suspended by rain delays.

Re: Is the roof on Centre Court an overall positive?
I agree the matches just don't feel right somehow when the roof is closed. Wimbledon is the epitomy of tennis tradition and the idea of it being played indoors is off. But it was a necessary evil. The rain delays were an integral part of Wimbledon, but the game has become so physical that you can't risk it with scheduling. Having players play consecutive best of five matches to catch up is tough. So yeah, it had to happen, it's certainly nice to get up in the middle of the night now and not risk it being for nothing with an interminable rain delay, but it's also ruined the atmosphere a bit.

They have the roof closed way too often for my liking.
