Not a good way to lose the set. Showed some fighting spirit though.

Hopefully he swings more freely in this set. Really there's nothing to lose!

He is not playing bad but Jo plays better today.

Yep, it's a very tough job to play Jo on fast indoor surface, even for top players.

Every hold by Vasek makes me happy.

Hoped a bit more competitive match though, like one 7-5ish tight set.

Still this should be a good lesson for you.

Come on, Milos!

thinking back to Vasek's loss in AO qualies... he definitely plays to the opponents level: plays better when the opponent is better. He needs to improve his ranking so he can get into the main draw of Slams and Masters 1000, even if it's just to get killed in the first round. It's the only way he'll improve.

Milos

As expected for Day 1, of course a huge doubles point tomorrow.

I am so happy for Milos - this is the kind of experience that I am sure he dreamed of and worked for: wearing the Canada shirt and having a big crowd wildly cheer him on as he wins.

Did not see any today, but happy to be tied 1-1. The plan is being followed. Now we really need the doubles tomorrow.

Well done Milos

By the way do you know how is Monfils? Could he play on sunday? Because it would be very different Vasek playing Benneteau or Llodra in a decisive rubber that if he plays against Gael. Anyway is very important today's doubles, it won't be easy, of course, but hope Nestor and who partners him get the win

I really hope we play Raonic for the doubles, especially since he breezed through that 1st match. We really, really need to win the doubles, and Raonic gives us the best chance.

I like Pospisil better in doubles, Raonic would need to get used to playing doubles first as they probably haven't practiced him in doubles.

Arash Madani of Sportsnet just tweeted that it will be Raonic in the doubles, which I think is the right decision. Pospisil isn't as good at handling this sort of pressure, nor does he have that serve, and it looked like his shoulder was bothering him a bit in the singles yesterday.
