I'm glad it is going to be in Vancouver, since the Montreal people would probably favor and root for the frenchies.

lol no...

Quebeckers "hate" the frenchies even more than they "hate" anglo Canadians

And you've clearly never seen the crowd going wild for Dancevic/Raonic/Pospisil on court 1 during the Rogers Cup...

I remember Dancevic taking down Verdasco on Court 1 in 2005, excellent stuff from the crowd.

I also remember ex-Canadian Greg Rusedski making four consecutive double faults against Wawrinka, also on Court 1. Happy times.

What do we think the lineup will be for February for Canada?

I'm guessing Milos, Vasek and Nestor are locks. It will be interesting who the fourth member is, I would say it depends on Frank's relationship with TC.

Default Re: Davis Cup

As I write this, Polansky trails Udomchoke at the AO. He did slightly better than Pospisil, but not enough to bump him as the #2 singles player in the upcoming Davis Cup tie against France. Even a Sunday substitution would be ill advised, in my opinion. I say Milos and Vasek on both Friday and Sunday. The remaining question is who should team up with Nestor for the doubles. I don’t think they’ll put highly ranked Shamasdin, and I don’t think they should. Doubles rankings can be a bit artificial, especially with the new doubles rules (no ad, super tie break). Polansky seems an unlikely pick to partner Nestor, having never played a Davis Cup double match. If Dancevic is on the team, would it be better to have him play doubles, thereby sparing Pospisil or Raonic from having to play three matches? It’s an interesting question.

I expect France to show up with a strong team led by Tsonga. Their other top singles players (Monfils, Simon and Gasquet) are all playing Montpelier, so one wonders if they’ll make the trip, or what condition they’ll be in if they do make the trip. I wouldn’t underestimate France’s second tier. Benneteau, and even Mannarino, are on form.

Raonic is on fire. I say Canada has a 39% chance of winning this tie.

Canada will go with Milos, Vasek, Peter and Daniel.

Vasek will most likely pair with Daniel as he did against Israel last year. Then Milos and Vasek will play both days in singles unless it is decided already on Sunday. Then I would expect Peter to get in the action.

Realistically, Canada needs Milos to win both Singles matches and then to win the doubles match to win the tie. Vasek won't be able to hang with the French big boys. Chances to win this tie really arn't great but we don't know what will happen until the tie. That is why they play.

Dancevic on the team? I just don't see that happening anymore. In fact, I don't ever see him playing on the team anymore.

My betting money says Raonic, Pospisil play singles on Friday, then Pospisil teams up with Nestor for Saturday's doubles, then on Sunday if it's all decided, Peter could get some action but if not, it will be Raonic and Pospisil out there again.

With the French as opposition, I wouldn't want Vasek to play 3 rubbers, the team might as well rest him D1 so he's fresher for both the Doubles and the battle of the #2s on Day 3.

As for who should be our #2 to play against French #1, right now I lean Peter.

If France sends a B team, we have an even better chance. The only players I don't have full confidence with Milos playing against is Monfils and Tsonga, aside from those two, I feel sure Milos can beat the rest.

Milos>Gasquet
Milos>Llodra
Milos>Simon
Milos>Benneteau
Monfils>Milos
Tsonga>Milos

At his best, Monfils is better than Milos. But Milos almost beat Monfils in October and that was coming off the injury. I wouldn't be surprised if Milos won here.
