I agree with you that we should expect atleast R4 which would bring him a lot of pts considering that he lost in R1 last year.

Ljubicic, Soderling, Ferrer, Verdasco...all that players start to play really well with 27 or so.
He has just lack of self-confidence and one day he will have, because he has potential. He just needs to keep fighting what he does. And he will be mature with 27.
He is just too good to not become regular top 10 player one day. But that day will not be in next 3 years. Just after that.

I do agree with you about the confidence problems but he's slowly improving in that department too. Look for instance against Nalby in Davis cup. His biggest problem is Delpo, he looks like a piece of wood when he plays him, he just has problems relaxing, Delpo got into his head. I think Marin has great chance to finish near top 10 this year as aside from Beijing F, St Petersburg and 3rd round US open he doesn't have much to defend

Yes, that's true. But that isn't far for 16th seed. Far would be semis or quaters.

If he gets to the 4th round, which he should, judging by his draw, his chances against Murray are 50-50. Murray will have too much pressure on him and Marin likes to dictate the shots which Murray usually lets him do. Also lets not forget that Murray's road to 4th round will be much harder than Marins.
