Jiří Veselý cheering thread
It's time this really talented young lefty gets his own thread.
Watched him win the Australian Open juniors and I was really impressed. He has been playing some futures and challengers lately and is doing well.

Re: Jiří Veselý cheering thread
In the quarter-finals of the Czech Republic futures against another '93 kid, Filip Horansky. He looks to be progressing quite nicely. I expect he'll play the junior grand slams, and then other then that, focus on futures.

Re: Jiří Veselý cheering thread
Into the finals of the futures now, he has 2 points to defend at that tournament, so he'll go up to around 724, and if he wins the tournament, he'll move to around 660.

That's exactly his plan. He said in an interview that he wants to play Futures and Challengers for the rest of the year and only play Slams in juniors. He also said he doesn't want to waste time and wants to build respect among seniors quickly. His plan is to break into Top 100 within 2 years.
He's won his first Futures last week so he's been doing well so far. His new rank is 648 and that doesn't include QF points from this week's Futures. I hope he keeps on progressing because Czech tennis is otherwise dying.

Re: Jiří Veselý cheering thread
Lost in the finals of the US Open Juniors to Golding in a tough three setter. Too bad but a good tournament, nonetheless.

Re: Jiří Veselý cheering thread
Jiri opened up the season winning his second career futures title in Shenzhen, China over Krajicek in the final. Unfortunately, he has only won one match since; he retired in his last event in the second round and has a 6-5 record this season. He's currently ranked #503 in the world.
GL to Jiri in future events, hopefully he will continue to progress, can remain healthy, and get better as he gains more experience and grows into his body and game.

Jiri has really come on strong the last couple months, great results in futures.

Re: Jiří Veselý cheering thread
Two Futures wins in a row for Jiri, only one set dropped. Seems like he has grown out of these tournaments. He must make a move to Challengers now.

any idea on his next tournaments? ITF page says that he has withdrawn from the third Israel Future. somehow it's "funny" that he seems to still not be able to directly enter the MD of a challenger... the cut is too good for the challengers starting next week. the cut for bergamo (week 6) is #229 as of right now, and he also is not in the list of alternatives, which leads me to the conclusion that he also won't play qualies.
all in all he looks really really promising. he may be the best from the 1993 generation. i hope he can start showing off in challenger-level this year. maybe also first ATP win? i dont think he has one, yet.

Probably will get to play a dead rubber if the Czechs go up 3-0. I think this will be the push he needs to make his jump into the top 200.
