Oh, it wasn't a sweet cake, well, it smelled codfish big time (I figured afterwards) I was so sure it was lemon I didn't even smell it, just ate a big piece and was really on the verge to puke it out the second after

well then it's quite normal I have to admit that it's not the best way to eat codfish, though.

That's about right. I always choose a Mexican option when I have some extra cash for eating out. Just sensational stuff.

How does France only have one vote? It seems like every advanced culinary technique in the world had its origins there.

On an interesting side note, philosopher Michel Foucault actually preferred American food to French.

Too crazy? Maybe
You're nuts. It's called "kettle corn" and you have to try it to understand . Do it this way:

Heat 1/4 cup of oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat until a couple test kernels pop, then dump in 1/4 cup of sugar and stir it around until it is mostly melted. Add a layer of popcorn kernels to the bottom of the pan and pop them with a lid on. Pour into a large bowl, sprinkle with salt and you're good to go.

The result is delicious popcorn with a very light crisp layer of hardened sugar around each piece. Amazing stuff.

Thank you.

I meant I like popcorn, but I eat just salt or butter. I cannot imagine how can be a popcorn sweet. I wouldn't eat it.

What could be considered as a typical American dish btw? Hamburgers? Hot-dogs? Peanutbutter? No cheap shot here, seriously wondering...

United States in the poll?

I'd say Asian food, especially Thai. And Italian.

The answer to the OP question is: my kitchen

Seriously, I don't have one country in mind but more about dishes from certain country.

Also, the Chinese cuisine in Hong Kong is quite different from Beijing, Shanghai, Szechuen or other regions in China. the Chinese cuisine in Canada is slightly different from US too.

Maybe you could just TRY it... you never know. (and yes I agree sweet popcorn is lovely)

My own philosophy of trying new foods: if it hasn't killed the natives for the last 50 years, I'll at least try it. I may not end up liking everything, but I'm sure I'll find some new delights

Kettle corn is one of the greatest things on earth

As for the other post about a typical American dish, the answer really is that there isn't one. Foreigners will claim its hamburgers and hot dogs and french fries and there is certainly lots of that, but there are so many restaurants and chefs in the US right now producing "New American" or "American" cuisine that is world class. Problem is because Americans don't have centuries of culinary tradition they tend to borrow ideas and parts of recipes from other places and trends and ideas can change rapidly so its hard to pinpoint it. But the US is blessed with great land and produces great ingredients, and in general Americans - or at least those who can afford to - are starting to eat much better.

If you are adventurous and love sampling different foods and new ideas, there is no better country in the world to live in right now in my opinion than the US. You can easily find all cuisines and much improving US cuisine - particularly in the big cities.
