There's meant to be seven books (though he might run over into an eighth) and he's writing the sixth one now. I believe he's told some people the major plot points so they can be released in case of him dying before the books are finished.

Yeah, I don't think he wants anyone to finish writing the books if he dies, so it's not gonna be spoiled.

Martin will be 65 this year. He's not horribly old, but he certainly doesn't look as if he leads a healthy life.

As a matter of fact, he told the producers of the TV show the major plot points of the next couple of books. If he were to die, the books would remain unfinished, but the show would proceed along the lines Martin himself had envisioned. So, regardless of what happens, we will see this story unfold as has been planned, be it in the books or on television.

Except for annoying things like this Theon appearing out of context. And the actor isn't even cute, so it's pointless keeping him around.

I must be the only one that actually likes Theon I'm a fan of how that actor manages to portay the divided loyalties inherent in that character.

Theon has some impact in book 5 and I expect it will turn out to be even more in coming books so they need to have his storyline going to stay true to books.
It is exactly the nature of his dual personality ie. Stark vs. Ironborn and his constant inner doubt and low self-esteem that make him a very suitable pawn in the game if not by the main players then by the author definitely.

they are going too fast for this book. They will run out of good material eventually.

I think Theon is great and Alfie does a fantastic job with him. I like that his story is being told. People should not expect the tv series to be a carbon copy of the books. The tv audience has certain expectations.

I agree GRRM should get a move on. He should have learned his lesson from the likes of the late great Robert Jordan who died before he could complete his epic Wheel Of Time series aged 58 as well as one of my all time favourites, the legendary David Gemmell who died aged 57 before he could complete his Troy trilogy.

These things happen

would definitely prefer the books to be completed. Though i'm interested to know what might happen if the TV show overtakes the books.

I think if they wanted to portray all of that deep stuff blah blah,, they should have gotten a cuter actor so the more shallow of us could stay interested.

The one thing that really disturbed me, was having Jaime roll around in all that much after having his hand severed. All I could think about was infection, gangrene etc.
