Re: Who is Adil Shamasdin???
I don't really know where he came from, but I would expect him to play Davis Cup only when Daniel has retired. I don't think there is place for two doubles players on the team. Plus Milos and Vasek are very capable doubles partners as Milos is showing this week

He's the one on the left. Also, shows why Cerranti is often his partner.

Re: Who is Adil Shamasdin???
I was asking myself the same question after starting to see his name in the draws & with good scores, suddenly. Had to be assumed he's some college player.
Any idea of what his origins might be?

Re: Who is Adil Shamasdin???
In the 1980s when Idi Amin banished all Ismailis Shamasdin came here to Canada on humanitarian basis. But lets go Adil!!! He is pretty good!!! (Plz don't quote me cause I just found it on Wiki and other websites which may not be reliable)

Re: Who is Adil Shamasdin???
He used to play out of the club I play at, and was one of the coaches for the Tennis Academy there, and would just play futures on and off. But I guess he got a really good relationship going with Cerratani that just took their game to the next level.

Re: Who is Adil Shamasdin???
Adil getting some pub from Damien Cox, probably the most I've ever seen written about him.
Story
Quote:
Shamasdin grew up playing on the courts at the Pickering Recreation Centre and scratched together student loans to attend Brown University, where he played tennis and was an All-American. Never on Tennis Canada’s radar, he scuffled around trying to play singles on the lower circuits, then blew out a shoulder in 2006 and was out for almost two years.
You know, it’s Canada. An MRI is free but I had to wait, like, three months,” he said.
He got healthy and was teaching a little tennis here, working on a few music videos there, and one day he glanced at the draws in some pro tournaments and saw a lot of the players he had grown up with.
So he started on the road back, first in singles, and then by the end of ’08 he began to focus on doubles, eventually getting in touch with his former Brown partner, Jamie Cerretani.
...
“I’m not a big guy, but I’m fit and I have good hands. I look at a guy like (Leander) Paes and all the success he’s had in doubles. He has no real weapons but great hands,” said the charismatic Shamasdin, who has no sponsors and uses his brother, Jamil, as his agent and very vocal advocate.
“I’m not sure a lot of the people at Tennis Canada even know I’m playing professionally. But I think I can do pretty well. Maybe top 50, top 30, who knows?”
He’s sleeping on an air mattress at a college buddy’s London apartment while he’s here, not quite the sumptuous digs the best in the sport get. Shamasdin has already scooped up four Wimbledon towels as souvenirs, and after years as the consummate outsider, suddenly feels like he’s gained a tiny foothold on the inside.

Re: Adil Shamasdin
Does anyone here think Adil will be on the Davis Cup team once Nestor retires?

Re: Adil Shamasdin
yeah will probably be Adil/Vasek for doubles, that is unless they want to go Milos/Vasek for doubles and bring 2 insurance singles players which wouldn't be a wise choice I don't think

For me, ideally, you have your 2 established singles players (Raonic, Vasek), 1 doubles specialist (Adil) and then back-up/on call player (Polansky, whoever else). We are fortunate that Raonic and Vasek can play some doubles as well. I wouldnt want to have both of them play doubles for I would want one of them to rest for the next day and so on.

Re: Adil Shamasdin
I'd rather have PLD, I think he is better at doubles.

Re: Adil Shamasdin
I think by the time Nester retires, and really it could be four years away (who knows!), we will have to see how Adil is doing. I mean really he has had a good year but we don't know if he can keep it up for the next couple years. It will be interesting. I mean look at Marie-Eve Pelletier, she had an Excellent year and made top 50 in doubles and then couldn't defend her points and is now ranked at 123 in doubles a year later.
