But he is rather squattered, as mentioned - time for a bit less animated and harder assed coach than Fred (who is a nice guy, just not a top tier coach). Would have thought VP would have followed Raonic and got a Spanish base, but I guess he can't just copy his path

there was like a 3 minute pause in the second set when vasek was serving 3-4 down. Im thinking maybe benjamin took a time out

Garza's not been the fittest looking guy around by any stretch and I guess this is a case in point. A bit of revenge by Vasek for Dancevic losing to the now Mexican No. 2 in Davis Cup last year.

either way the fact that vasek has struggled so mightily against 2 guys he should beat much easier just proves what a state he's in

if the draw was tougher i wouldnt have penciled him in anywhere but he should be able to walk to the semis

Vasek continues to struggle, but gets past Daniel Garza (ranked 423) 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0. He was down a set and a break at one point.

The first serve still eludes him too often, but at least he started to find it more through the match.

I see that Vasek barely got past Garza at another challenger (on hard) earlier this year - 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, so I wonder whether his difficulties are more to do with Garza in particular or generally his inability to find form.
